Minimal Run?

Hi all,

I'm doing a Let's Play of The Dagger of Amon Ra

viewable here

One of the fun extras I wanted to include was a minimal run - in other words, progressing through the game with the smallest possible score / least number of clues seen.

In other words, how clueless can you be and get to the end. Is there any way with SCI viewer or anything like that to view what event triggers are? I'm having trouble getting anything but the "you are doing the best you can be doing" message for the first chapter. I KNOW there are worse messages, but I don't know if they're gettable.

Thanks!

Oof! If I recall correctly it's not really possible to get anything but a 100% reading from the first section.
You can have a look at the script I made of LB2, it's located at: http://www.adrive.com/public/Ury4uD/laurabow2.pdf. Hope it helps!

Actually it all depends on what you tell the coroner at the end of the game. You could have missed all the clues, give the coroner the right answers and win, or you could find all the clues, give the coroner wrong answers, and lose (to see the alternate endings). Also I believe LB2 doesn't have a point system.

Alright, so saying I want as few points as possible wasn't quite right.

Basically, I want to get through the game with Laura seeing and knowing as few things as possible.

As an example: I was able to make it all the way the final two deaths of The Colonel's Bequest without ever actually seeing a body. Right until the end, "Laura" didn't know people were dying!

So basically, I want to find out what the specific event flags are. In other words, I want to find as few clues as possible. In order to do that, I need to know what the game requires for you to advance. So like, in the first chapter, you can't get the dirty cab driver unless you've talked to O'Riley, Ziggy, and Steve, and gotten the magnifying glass. I think.

But you DON'T have to talk to Ziggy about Najeer, or find out about the Countess from Steve, or anything like that, so I wouldn't want to do any of those things.

Does that make sense?

P.S. The script is really amazing! But I don't see where it has any event flags, so it's just useful as a resource I guess.

On The Colonel's Bequest it's nice and easy to see where exactly the triggers are, but on LB2 that's so difficult! I'm guessing it's primarily corpse discovery and the overhearing, but I'll check as soon as I have time.

Yeah, that'd be my guess too. I know you at least need to get into the speakeasy, talk to Steve, talk to Ziggy before you can get to act 2!

In act 2 you need to overhear the conversations, have the meeting with Steve and find the dagger, but I passed the sequence without asking anything.

But beyond that it gets complicated. Very. On my first playthrough, the first time I entered Carrington's office, it had the corpse straight away.
On my second playthrough, I found that progress cannot be gotten unless you listen at Yvette's door. So you also have to listen to that one conversation you hear between Yvette and the bookkeeper, from inside Carrington's office, before the first corpse is triggered.

That playthrough I also found that time changes when you see Tut Smith at the Egyptian exhibition (for his meeting), but you don't need to see him there. The third time I managed to progress without seeing that.

In both playthroughs, I just couldn't manage to get Eddie's body to appear.

Bear in mind that to get out the museum alive, you'll need the dinosaur bone, lantern, cheese, preferably wire (so: wire cutters), snake oil and snake lassoo, so you can't escape going to the basement.

No, definitely not.

Actually, in my let's play, I'm sort of the guiding voice while my two friends who haven't played the game are the ones making the decisions. I made a save-file with all the items they needed, but I let them get to the final chapter minus boot, cheese, snake oil, smelling salts.

It was so great.

I mean don't get me wrong, I love the game, but having the last chapter essentially be a whole series of "hope you picked X up!" checks while never enforcing that beforehand at ALL... Well

Sounds fun! And familiar. :) Will you post your Let's Play once you uploaded it?

Absolutely! Is Something Awful's paywall up? If it isn't, you should be able to see it through the link in my first post! :)
