GK1 Day 6 patch compatible with GOG version?

Post by emiliospider1 »

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum (just registered today) so this is my first topic...

Well, the thing is that I love adventure games, and I specially love Gabriel Knight 1, so I bought it on the GOG summer sale a few weeks ago. The thing is, I found that this version didn't have the "Day 6" patch applied (http://www.sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updat ... ml#GK1_NRS), so the annoying bug of the police station was still there.
So I asked GOG support about the matter, and they answered that, as it was a fan-made patch, they were unable to add it to the game.
So, the question is: is there any way I can make this patch work with the GOG version of the game? Floopy or CD version of the patch?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum! I have not looked at the GOG version of GK1, so I am not sure what they have done with it. Off hand I would suspect that they used Endroz's installer and then added in the DOS files. If they used Endroz's installer, it should have the patches he made, so it might not be compatible. You could try to add it to the PATCHES folder and if it causes problems, you can always remove the files from the patch. If it tries to overwrite any files when you add the patch, back up the original, first. That way, if you need to remove the patch, you can restore any original files. If you do this, please report back if it helps or not. One thing to remember, some times when you save a game on the same screen that you experience a bug, it can carry over the bug, even if you have patched it. In this case you need to back use a save from an earlier point or restart the game.

Another thing you can try is to turn down the DOSBox cycles. This is a speed bug that did not surface until PCs became fast enough to reveal it. Hold the Ctrl key while tapping the F11 key will lower the cycles, Ctrl + F12 will increase cycles.

I have been intending to check the GOG release to see what it may need, but this will probably not be anytime soon. On the other hand, my changes have already been applied to GK2.
