This board has no Unicode support!

When I tried to update my sig, I got an SQL error because one of the songs is in Bulgarian and uses the Cyrillic alphabet. I had to transliterate it into Latin letters.

It isn't the Cold War anymore. Any Internet application should be able to support all characters in Unicode, not just for the Germanic and Romance languages. This is a global community.

It's also true, though, and I'm speaking only for myself, that if I'd write in Greek no one would understand what I'm saying. It's a little compromise, so that anyone can understand what we're talking about.

It should still support the characters. What if someone's typing a mathematical formula and needs the pi symbol, or wants arrows or other Unicode symbols? Or is simply mentioning the name of (say) a Czech person, and wants to be able to spell it correctly?

that's probably a windows limitation being carried over. Windows doesn't have all the extra characters by default (unlike OSX and Linux) so you probably can blame MS for that problem. :D

Yeah, maybe the server uses Windows. I'm on Linux (my computer has Windows and Linux on it).

Modern Windows does come with Cyrillic characters and this server is a Linux server. This board is just a standard English install of phpBB. Taryn, if I get some time this weekend I'll take a look o see what would be involved in adding other Language support. I never bothered about it because this is an English language board. It is not a matter of English chauvinism, but as the most widely spoken language, it is the modern day Latin.

Collector, it might be as simple as specifying unicode in php.ini.
