XP Mode

It looks like XP Mode might be available to regular Win7, now. Could someone with Win7 Home/Home Premium see if it lets you download and install it?

From what I see, this is the requirement: "Make sure you're running Windows 7
Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate. "
So I don't think Home/Home Premium is supported, right?

The first in that list just says Win7. I had heard that MS was now allowing it to be installed on lower versions now. I can't tell because of the automatic detection on the page and I have Pro.

Doesn't work for me (and I have Win7 Home Premium, 32-bit). When I try to download and run the Windows Genuine Check file from Microsoft (from
here), it tells me that the file is not a genuine Win32 executable. WTF??? So I have a valid copy of Win7, but the Microsoft file won't work for me? *irritated*

Must have been a bad download. Works fine for me.

Same here. Just tried it and it worked fine. I'm on Win7 Ultimate though, so I can't test if XP Mode works on the lower versions of Win7

Perhaps Rath's AV screwed up the DL.

So I see two files to download... Which ones? Or both?
File name:
File size:
WindowsXPMode_en-us.exe
469.8 MB
WindowsXPMode_N_en-us.exe
449.0 MB

Used to be just the first one. I don't know what the "N" file is. However, there is a second "Windows6.1-KB977206-x64.msu" (4.11 MB) required, too. I would suppose that it would be "Windows6.1-KB977206-x86.msu" for 32-bit systems. The KB file probably integrates the Virtual PC into the host system for the near seamless use of XP Mode apps.
Edit: this explains the difference
http://en.community.dell.com/support-fo ... 24449.aspx Ignore the "WindowsXPMode_N_en-us.exe" as there may be some things that require media player.

Darn it. Collector beat me to it
Yes, anytime you see a -N version, it doesn't include media player. Just like Windows 8.1, there is a -N version you can get. Personally I dunno why anyone would really want a -N version, but I suppose people have there reasons

For EU antitrust reasons.

Ok. So I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
Goes through the install. Unpacks the files. Finishes the install.
And nothing.
No Windows Virtual XP thing.

Dug further. In the Program Files\Windows XP Mode... No executable files in there. At all. Anywhere.
