hi everyone from australia. Firstly l just want to say l appreciate any free help l can get, and i'm glad l found a forum like this because l have been playing the classic sierra games all my life, it has brought me alot of joy, in my boring life. (lol) Anyway I bought the classic sierra adventure games for windows xp last year, (larry, kings quest, police quest, and space quest) l have windows vista (32-bit) (business), kings quest 1-6 ran ok on my hp laptop, but i'm having problems playing kings quest 7. When l loaded up the game l received a message saying that l have to run in 256 color mode or more, and something else? Anyway after a while l solved the problem by changing from 32-bit color mode to 16-bit color mode but now my screen is cut off and l cannot get a full screen to play this game. And when l do choose only 256 colors (l have 4 different types to choose from on windows vista) the screen is pretty much full but l have color problems. What do l do?
To sum it all up if anyone has any idea of the best way l could play kings quest 7 on vista then i'd be very grateful, cause i've done about 6 hours of research and still getting nowhere, not that great at computers.
Much thanks for the free help.
ciao
aaron
p.s. any questions please ask.

Glad to see that you make it from Adventure Gamers to here. I'm sure that as soon as Collector, the board owner and our personal Mr. Wolf (he solve any kind of problems), gets online, you'll have a solution to your problem!

Hi, Aaron. Welcome to SHP. The short answer is all you need to do is run my
King's Quest Collection DOSBox patch. One word of caution. Because of problems caused the added security in Vista, you may want to install the games in another folder than the "Program Files" folder, such as "C:\Sierra\King's Quest Collection" before applying the patch.

HI again, i've managed to get DOSBox in fullscreen, l just don't know about the firecracker bug thing. But the strangest thing happened just before l started kings quest 7 and l couldn't watch the intro, the message l received had something to do with an internal game error, and it said to report to sierra, it was something to do with a robot resource 91 error, upon research its a script problem (l think).
It's really odd, theres virtually nothing on it on google, but the rest of the game is working, l just can't see the intro, and l just remembered it suggested l restart or restore my game.
if l could get your views on this that' ll be good, and sorry to be a pain in the backside.
ok bye take care

With the patch installed and DOSBox you shouldn't be experiencing the firecracker bug.
Regarding the internal error, I know nothing about this problem but I suggest you to take a look at
this. Hope it can help!

Andrea found it. The DOS version does not use the AVIs for the movies. The link that Andrea found will let you download the DOS movies, a 20 MB download, which is why it was not included with the patch. You can also watch the AVIs outside of the game by double clicking the files to play them in Media Player.

hi again, l downloaded the 20 mb file but had some trouble with winrar, l actually thought once you download and extract that file then you can actually view the kings quest 7 intro and ending with DOSBox, but l know now, instead l just went to the kq7 folder, pressed kq7 game and clicked on the avi folder and viewed it through there. (in windows)
I just want to thank you guys for your help, i'm planning on playing kings quest 8 after this, (kq7) and plenty of more sierra games and knowing my luck l might be having more problems, but l know where to come back to, this is a really good forum.
have a good time over the holidays and stay safe
