Save Game problem

Just got the Kings Quest Collection on CD. Played KQI with absolutely no problems saving games. Trying out KQ V. When I try to save a game I get "This disk/directory is full ... error. I created folder C:\Program Files\Sierra\King's Quest Collection(TM)\kq5\gsave and I can change directory to gsave but I still get the same error. Any ideas on overcomming this problem?

Thanks,
Erik

Just figured it out.
Copy file kq1sg.dir into folder where saved games will go.
Rename the file kq5sg.dir

Incidently, I tried deleting all the saved games in the list once I got this to work but that ended up bringing me right back to the same error. However, just replacing saved games works fine.

Regards,
Erik

This is a known minor bug with KQ5 in DOSBox. All you need to do is click "Change Directory" then hit enter. You will then be able to save.

never heard of this.
Should be relatively easy to track down though.

It is such a minor bug that I never reported it, but it would be great if you could track it down.

can't really reproduce it.
Can you give an layout of how the files are installed at your place ?
(and maybe the contents of resource.cfg)

It is the CD version from the new collection. Nothing unusual about the dosbox.conf. The only changes from default is normal core and cycles set to around 8000. C for default install is mounted as C:\Program Files\Sierra\Kings Quest Collection\kq5, but it occurs with C:/Sierra/KQC/kq5, too. I have other versions of the game (standalone CD, floppy and from the other collections) that I can try. I can also give you more info when I get home.

I have had time to experiment and have found an odd quirk. In all of the following cases the game's folder was mounted as the "C" drive. If the game is started in DOSBox from SIERRA.EXE the bug occurs. If the game is started from a bat file to specify .\RESOURCE.CFG the bug occurs. If the game is started from a bat file with c:\RESOURCE.CFG the bug does not occur.

This is the only DOS SCI game where this happens. I am fairly certain that this did not happen under Windows 9x with real DOS, but I will check on it this weekend. If it does occur with real DOS it is a game specific error. If not, I suppose that it might be something with DOSBox, but hardly anything that should be a high priority. I at least now know how to fix it for this game.

I went to directory with all the files.
(no subdirectories!)

and started it with
KQ5.BAT which contained:

Code: Select all

sierra -f -v
I would be interested in hearing how it behaves on win98

I'll give it a try this weekend.
