Phatasmagoria 2 - Game Crashes on Easter Egg

Hello,

I decided to replay Phantasmagoria: A Puzzle of Flesh, and try to find all of the easter eggs, but I came across a problem. When I'm in Warner's office, if you click on the stuffed weasel three or more times, it triggers an easter egg, but the game crashes when playing the scene. Is there a way to fix this issue?

Here is the diagnostic file & save before the easter egg is triggered.

Strange, I'm able to see it (for a second before the game crashes) before that occurs. Would a save before entering his office help trigger the easter egg?

Make sure NOT to try that Easter Egg while in Chapter 3 of the game.

OK, There is a stuffed animal that looks like some kind of small hoofed animal (Dik-dik?) 2nd from the door that has no hot spot, but if you click on it in just the right spot the camera zooms in and out on it. Is that the egg? It does not crash for me. Looking at your log there are only two things I see that are not the same, but neither should be a factor. You changed the SDL section of the dosbox.conf and you are missing the install script.

The crash is typical of a missing resource, but as I said, you do not seem to be missing any resource. Perhaps a corrupted DUK file? Is this the Windows only version or the one that included both interpreters?

That is the easter egg. I changed the settings in the SDL, but the issue still occurs, and I'm using the version that contains both interpreters. Just curious, but is it possible that the missing install script is causing the problem with the game crashing when the easter egg is triggered?

Does the easter egg not work, or does it crash the game if I attempt it in Chapter 3?

Yes, it crashes in Chapter 3 as the DUK file containing the Easter Egg is not on that CD.

Irrelevant since he used the new installer. All of the DUK files are present since it is a full HDD install, so no it is not missing.

Ah, ok. The DUK file in question would be 6802.DUK by the way, if that is of any help.

What were you using to view DUK files?

From his explanation, it appears that he simply viewed them in-game - copying the source files to the hard drive, changing the path in the config, and then renaming the DUK files one by one to 4.DUK (the title screen), starting and quitting the game to identify each DUK file one by one. Bet he had fun with it, lol

That is a lot of trouble to go through. I never look into it before, but I just made a discovery. Looking at the header of the files I discovered that it is a form of AVI (hdrlavih8). They will play in VLC. I have the K-Lite pack installed, which covers nearly all of the codecs you will likely encounter. I have DUK now associated with VLC and only have to double click a file to play it.

I tried triggering the easter egg with a new game while using the default dosbox.conf settings, and I also reinstalled the game, but it still produces the same problem. The only thing I can do to earn the points for triggering this easter egg without crashing the game, is to skip the scene the moment it starts.

Just to make sure that yours is not corrupt, try unpacking this into your "DUK" directory.
