One of the more egregious unresolved issues with QG4CD is Franz' spoken, and broken, introductory dialogue. Not only does the played audio sample lack any resemblance to the text, but it's not even from the same character, and is instead one of Ivan's lines from later in the game.
Having looked at the relevant map, msg, and audio files, the problem isn't the result of a coding error, but rather, an incorrect and duplicate sample - almost as if the one intended for Franz had been inadvertently overwritten during production. This being the case, a correct A08Y0A43.032 recording just needs to be created, converted, and placed into the "patchdir" for substitution, ideally in the same 11025Hz, 16-bit mono, ADPCM format as everything else.
Jess Harnell, of some fame, provided the voice for Franz in the style of Rodney Dangerfield. Try as I might, I just can't seem to cut it as a replacement. Would it be worth trying to see if Jess could provide the missing line, or is there any chance one of you have some heretofore unknown talent you'd be willing to share?
Given the liberties taken with by the voice actors, the written line of "I be Franz. I am wealthy garlic grower." might be better spoken as something like "I'm Franz. I'm a wealthy garlic grower, you know, but let me tell you, I get no respect!"
Thoughts?
