The staring contest bit is ACTUALLY TRUE!
If you give in to a cat's stare, the cat will feel he/she has mastery over you, and you will find it a great deal more difficult to pick up your cat and carry it to its special sleeping quarters. You will also be mercilessly tortured by the cat when you change his/her flea collar.
