New King's Quest Series (1 - 7) DOSBox Installers
For those trying to install the King's Quest games the on a modern PC, I have written new installers for the old Sierra DOS games. It will install your game and set it up to run automatically in DOSBox from Windows shortcut, just like any Windows game or program. Just download the right installer for your game. These installers do not include the games. You must own the games to install them.
Kings Quest Collector's Edition' - 15th anniversary (1994) DOSBox installer for Win7+
New installer for the 1994 King's Quest Collector's Edition - 15th anniversary. This is Win7+ compatible. It can also download and install DOSBox.

The installer will install King's Quest, King's Quest I SCI, King's Quest II, King's Quest III, King's Quest IV, King's Quest V and the Demo of King's Quest VII. Also can install the extras included on disc 1. If installing the Windows version of King's Quest VI on Windows XP, it will allow you to download and install VDMSound for the Windows version in XP. Note that it will not install the Windows version of King's Quest VI on 64-bit Windows.

New King's Quest: Mask of Eternity installer for Win7+
Updated:The Mask of Eternity has a number of issues on modern Windows. On Windows XP there are spots where the game will lock up after cut scenes. The game will not even start on Vista or later.

Aroenai has put a great deal of work into modifying and patching MoE. Among the various improvements:
  • Improved fixes for cutscene lockups.
  • Works with netbooks or PCs with no CD drives.
  • allowAltEnter enabled by default.
  • Always report enough free space for New Game
Best of all, the game no longer deletes/copies files when loading new levels. The installer also unpacks the levels for dramatically improved load times.

DOSBox Patch for the 3rd King's Quest Collection (2006)
The patch that started it all. This patch addresses all known issues with the highly flawed 2006 VU King's Quest Collection. Just run it and point it to your installed copy of the collection. To do a clean install use the replacement installer below.

Note: This patch has been reported to work with the Steam version of the KQ Collection.

New Installer for the 2006 VU King's Quest Collection
New for the 2006 VU King's Quest Collection owners. I have made a new installer it that saves having to use the original flawed installer first and then having to apply the DOSBox patch. Now you can install the King's Quest games in one easy operation. Fixes all known issues with this release. Fully XP/Vista/Win7 32and 64-bit compatible. Restores missing files. Sets up the Windows version of KQ6 in ScummVM. Updates KQ7 to version 2.00b with DOS interpreter to allow the game to be played in DOSBox (addresses firecracker speed bug).

Just insert your King's Quest Collection CD and run the installer. As with the DOSBox patch, the new installer can add the AGI version of KQ1 to the collection if the game's files are in the same folder as the installer when you run it. If you have the Mask of Eternity CD, it can add it to the collection, too.

* The standard Vista warning for old games should be observed -- because of its limited write access, avoid installing in the %ProgramFiles% folder ("C:\Program Files" on most English systems or "C:\Program Files (x86)" on Win 64 systems) or you may have problems with not being able to save configuration changes or saving games.
