Making Shivers videos

Post by Rudy »

Hi folks,

Yesterday i started creating the pages of Shivers in the Sierra Chest, but i'm having problems making videos. I'm running it in XP and use MultiRes to display it on the entire screen. I use Fraps to create videos but, for some reason, it doesn't work with this game. It doesn't record at all, no videofile is created at all. It should be possible though, cause i've seen a full video walkthrough of Shivers on Youtube.

This is how it looks at the moment:
http://www.sierrachest.com/index.php?a= ... =w&gconf=1

While that looks ok as it is now, it does have several drawbacks:
1) pictures take more space than videos (which are stored on Youtube)
2) it requires more scrolling down and explanation where to go and what to do
3) you can't hear the music, see all screens, and the actions as a player. Video is simply 100 times cooler.

Got any idea what might prevent Fraps from recording Shivers?

Thanks

If you just want to get the movies, you could try VMD player. There is no built in way to convert to another format, but you might be able to do a capture of it from the player.

FRAPS won't capture SHIVERS if I am not mistaken, because it's not a "true" Windows based game... I can find out what it needs for FRAPS to even look at it to capture... but what you could use in the meantime (far more annoying to use) is TechSmith's SNAGIT program...

SNAGIT is what I used to capture the risque LSL7 Easter egg.

Yes, Collector, i would like to record the entire game, not just the movie sequences. I'll have a look at this SNAGIT. Thanks for the advice, guys.

Edit: hold on here just a moment. Is SNAGIT also for video capture or only for screenshot capture? It appears it's only used for taking screenshots. Camtasia from TechSmith seems to be their program for screen recording.

You could also try GameCam. I've used it before and it works. There's a free version, which is the same as the purchasable version, but imprints a water mark on the video. The watermark doesn't intrude on the image, but it's somewhere in one of the corners.

The SNAGIT that I have is an older version that has video capture.

SNAGIT is video capture also. The newer version is the biggest pain in the arse to use and customize. But it's there. (We use it for work). I, like Collector, have my own personal copy of SnagIt which is a much older version.

Thank you for the suggestion DPX, but it does not work either. The recording screen does not even show up when i press F1. It works with other games though.

And the answer is... (drums rolling): Screen Recorder Gold. One of the Youtube members informed me how he recorded it. Works like a charm, except for one small detail: the video lags behind the sound. This becomes very obvious when recording long videos, lagging about 5 seconds in a 10 minute video. Best way to handle that would be to record in chunkies of 1 minute and merge them lateron in Videomaker. I'm testing it now with the unregistered version (which leaves a watermark). If it goes properly, then i guess i'll register so the watermark disappears.

All Shivers videos are made. Going to insert them in the Chest any moment now, so that will complete the Shivers page.

By the way, I'm getting a bit more creative with video editing :).
Check this out, particularly between 3:10 and 3:50. Speakers up  .
