The One Thing That Stuck Out For Me About Quest for Glory...
All of Sierra's "main" games were very different in themes, and as a result - the way the game played, interacted, etc.
If you had to pick out ONE thing (good, or bad) - about the game, that left a lasting impression (and feel free to go into detail) - what would it be?
And I'd like it to be just ONE thing (because on some of our favorites, it's too easy to list all the things we enjoyed).
I want to focus on what made EACH game of the different titles (GK, LSL, PQ, KQ, etc) different than one another?

This one's easy. What struck me for Quest for Glory was the ability to play multiple character types, and advancing your own stats - so literally if you and a friend each played a Fighter, you could (and probably would) end up with very different stats. These multiple choice character types also created multiple ways to accomplish the same thing; which created replayability

Replayability was one thing. I loved QfG for its humour, characters, and stories.
(Plus, of course, the fact that each new character type faced different challenges).

This is what I loved - because it really increased the playability. For example getting an item one way as a warrior, was not the same as getting it as a wizard. So not only were you playing a character with different powers, but you potentially had a different way of accomplishing the same thing.

Dad hated RPGs so we never played this one. But for some reason I remember owning the box for QFG2....I may be misremembering that. I've never seen it since. Maybe it belonged to one of dad's friends (who he used to get copies of most of his games from).

Have you never played it since then (I mean, now that you're older and such - like through GOG or anything)?

But, but, but... QfG is not an RPG!
It's an adventure game that only
feels like an RPG.
(Yeah, all right... I'm splittin' hairs).
Why did your dad hate RPGs, MI? *curious*

I liked the thread of continuity that linked all of the games. We learn of Shapeir in QFG1. We learn of Tarna in QFG2. We learn of Silmaria and Rakeesh's son in QFG3, etc.

Of course. I acquired all the Sierra games (in one form or another) long before they started being released on GOG. A few of them I found in thrift shops. I played through and beat QFG1 and started on QFG2 but it just wasn't grabbing me. I'll get back to it eventually I'm sure. I know everyone loves the second one.

He's just not that much into stats, stat-grinding, and combat arcade sequences. He likes to take his time and think. Unless the game is actually an action game. He likes FPS's and games like Tomb Raider (especially the reboot). Regardless of whether that's what QFG is or has to be or not, it didn't matter. He wrote them off and will never played them.

QFG1 has always been my favorite of the series. My problem with QFG2 was the damn hallways in the city... that got old,
fast.

Yeah, the triangular pointy realistic bust really did it for him.

Didn't say him. Said most straight men.
But really... Lara Croft was (as badly pixelated polygonned as it was) - was clearly overly sexualized. Why is a woman, running through a dangerous jungle, wearing short shorts (and not pants and boots to protect her from snake bites) ... and then there was the super tight top with a pencil sized waist.
They were CLEARLY gunning for the "nerdy, gaming, male population."

Oh, yes.
But getting back to Quest for Glory - why in the world is Elsa von Spielburg dressed in a chainmail bikini?
- In the arena...
- ...and in the Hall of Kings.
Seriously, she's a bandit queen, a princess, and an experienced warrior - and she's wearing armour that anyone can get through with a gosh-durned
arrow? I mean, come
on!

That is a good question - I am surprised Lori let that one slide.
Maybe a nod to
Red Sonja?

As with most categories, game genres not a matter of exact definitions but of trying to group things together such that the things within each group have a lot in common with each other and less in common with things outside the group. QfG, however, has a lot in common with both adventure games (it was made by Sierra and uses its adventure game engine, it features inventory puzzles) and RPGs (character creation/customization, stats, combat). Depending on where someone draws the boundaries, it could be an adventure game with RPG elements, an RPG with adventure game elements, an adventure game/RPG hybrid, or its own thing entirely. The boundaries are arbitrary, so you can't say that any of those is objectively wrong.
And however you label it, if a person doesn't like RPGs, they may very well not like (or not be willing to try) QfG for that very reason.
