Advertising goes overboard ... yes, once again ...

This morning I was shopping at my local Woolworths supermarket. As usual for this time of year, they played Christmas songs.

So far, so normal, yes? Except that the "Deck the Halls" song came on, and the performer sang: "Shopping at your local Woollies, fa la la la la..."

Um, advertising much?

Grr. I was going to point out some songs on YouTube that say it best, but apparently this board won't allow me to link to them by any means at all! :x So, please do yourselves a favour and look up the following songs:

------------------------
EDIT - apparently, I'm not even allowed to MENTION these songs! What's going on? Every time I try, I get this error:

Are you able to PM me what you were trying to post? If so, send it to me... and if it won't let you PM it to me... PM me anyway, and let me know, and I will give you my email address to send it to me. To see if I can figure out what it is that's breaking the forum.

Wow, that's very blatant of them. I rarely go into Woolworths, we primarily stick to Aldi. Occasionally we stop off at Coles, but I'm not crazy about most of their products. "Coles Radio" is so annoying!

I see a lot of stores (and car dealerships) who tweak actual (Christmas) songs.

Hey, SHP! I had no idea you were in Sydney. Nice! I'm south of you, down in Melbourne. ;)

I agree, "Coles Radio" is really annoying. I pity the poor Coles workers who have to put up with it.

I hope to visit Melbourne one of these days. We have friends down there so hopefully next year or so :)

I, too, pity Coles employees who have to listen to that day in and day out. Not to mention the self-service checkout spiel over and over and over. I will give Woolworths this much - their self-serve recordings aren't nearly as grating and seem to play at a more reasonable volume.

True. At least you can turn the self-service checkout spiel down (or off), even if people don't seem to be aware of it yet.

If I were a supermarket employee, the first thing I would do every morning would be to turn that spiel off. Unfortunately, there's not much they can do about the Christmas music... I can just imagine having to listen to "O Come All Ye Faithful" (done very slowly) 15 times a day.

Don't get me wrong, I like Christmas music - but 24/7??? No, thanks!
