Hi folks,

I'm planning to buy a 5 1/4" drive (been a long time since i had one of those), so i can run and record some of those games from the mid 80ies. On another note, I have now quite some games from On-Line Systems from 1980-1982 for the Apple II and they also come on 5 1/4" disks. Collector, didn't you say once that it is possible to convert the software to PC format with some kind of converter software? I would really love to record some of that early stuff and embed it in the Chest. Videos like that, you can't find anywhere.

No converter, just an emulator. AppleWin is free. You would need to convert those disks to images, first. A 5.25" PC floppy drive would not be able to read the Apple disks.

Except for the arcade games, videos would be a little pointless. All of the adventure games were just a series of static images, little more than text adventures with still images.

So i need an Apple II computer? If so, that's gonna cost me a small fortune in shipping costs alone...

You could always try Virtual Apple. It's an online-based Apple II emulator. Since you're not downloading the games it couldn't be considered "software piracy."

I'd say it's a good alternative to purchasing a relatively useless Apple II computer, a 5.25" drive and the necessary games. You don't get to keep them, but at least the price is right.

You could use some existing images. The AppleWin download I have includes the freeware version of Mystery House. The 2nd KQ collection ships with a number of Apple ][ disk images. Other images are available, too.
