Didn't I reply to this already? I was sure I did. Unfortunately, I forgot what I wanted to say.
So I'll start by asking two questions. One: When did Commander Keen become a cutesy 4-word advertising jingle?
Commander Keen - it fell off the truck!
Commander Keen - Bethesda don't give a f$#@!
Commander Keen - so buy it right now!
Commander Keen - and we don't care how!
Commander Keen - for prepubescents!
Commander Keen - not for you adolescents!
Commander Keen - we made it for phones!
Commander Keen - old gamers are crones!
And two: when did Commander Keen get a sister?
The deterioration of Bethesda continues ... sigh.

Technically, she's his daughter. These are Keen's kids.
The real question is: why did they turn it into a F2P puzzle platformer for mobile phones? I can see this as a side-release to a real game, but not the first foot forward you'd take ressurecting a classic franchise.

I have a question - who is Commander Keen? I've never heard of this!

It was an early 90's platform shooter, kind of like classic Duke Nukem, but for kids. The series was released as shareware, so it was a fairly common game to find in people's homes or on school computers.

Now this familiar and I recognize it now. (Admittedly, I never remembered it was apparently called Commander Keen).
Come to think of it - doesn't someone on the forum have Commander Keen (from the thumbnail) as their avatar on here?
I do like that you don't kill anything - just stun them.
Made me think of ChexQuest which was a Doom knock off - but based on Chex cereal.

Yes. The video that Datadog linked to actually the 4th game in the Commander Keen series; Collector's link is the first game.
Like other games by iD and Apogee software at the time (e.g. Crystal Caves, Duke Nukem, Secret Agent, Jill of the Jungle et al.), the first game was released for free. It was a good marketing move; it prompted kids to ask their parents to buy the rest. "But muuuuuuuuum!"
This new "Commander Keen" is atrocious and a blemish on its name. Tom Hall himself renounces it.
And now for the next part of my post.....
Tawmis....
How have you NOT heard of Apogee and ID Software's technological PC side-scrolling breakthrough MARVEL game series COMMANDER KEEN????? When everyone else I knew was playing Mario on NES I was playing Keen in DOS! I've never met anyone who was a classic gamer fan who didn't recognize Keen and who was born before 1990 lol.

I had not recognized them in Collector's original post... Once he posted the play through (of the original game!) - then I recognized it! (I just didn't remember it was called Commander Keen)

I've never heard of Commander Keen before either. This is the first time I've ever seen the name. Will look up the original when my computer's back from the shop.

Just so everyone knows, the above attachment includes the game it self, so all you need to play this classic is to download the attached installer and run it. It is a shareware title.

Ep1 is historic and fun, but I honestly prefer Ep4 which is also free. And has MUSIC!
