He was not the Messiah, he was a very funny man!
I loved him as in "The Life of Brian" (not just as Brian's mum but also as the hermit who took a vow of silence). Loved him as the Crunchy Frog Salesman, but even more so as the man who wrote some of Python's funniest sketches (e.g. Elizabeth pornography smugglers, or the Funniest Joke in the World).
Notwithstanding his contribution to Python, Terry's Viking saga (and accompanying film) were good fun, and his docos on medieval lives and 'barbarians' in the ancient world even more so. Who said history couldn't (or shouldn't) be fun?
This is worth reading: The Pythons remember Terry Jones (NY Times). A touching, and funny, tribute.
RIP Terry Jones.
