The Sierra Bug Report!

Semi-Happy-PartyGoer's Wooden Nickle post made me think - we've all probably hit bugs when playing Sierra games.

I've been pretty fortune, and been pretty "bug free" in most of my games.

But I thought it'd be kind of fun to do...

Essentially, which games do YOU remember, personally running into a bug (and this doesn't mean "dead ends" - but actual [game] bugs [not as in the insect... unless there was an insect when the bug was encountered....]) - in any Sierra related game

How many do you want?

One bug I shot a DOSProg video with (not sure how I can upload them now that I gave YT the boot) of The Colonel's Bequest. In the chapel I once had Laura blocking Jeeves' way. I had to wait with moving until he left the scene but he didn't leave, he kept walking around in circles until I quit the game.

There is the Restart Object Teleport Bug - if you restart while you were playing a game, the object that you had active will be teleported to the new game you start. You can, for instance, restart a game while you have the snake rod active, then you are on day 1 again, with the snake rod, and you can visit the hounfour.
Here I am exploiting it:
Hounfour on Day 1

And there was of course Mini Gabriel, see attachment. I also made a video of him being tiny while talking to the mime - as he loses his temper the mime shrinks as well, and the mime gets his regular size as the video ends. :D

Yeesh! I'd never heard of the teleport bug thing? How does it remember what you had - if you quit (and don't save) and restart?

Honestly, I (recall) being pretty lucky. I think the only game where I was plagued with bugs was King's Quest VI (the log thing), Quest for Glory IV (a few; but mostly I recall the bug that's pretty much at the beginning), and Phantasmagoria II where you go down to Hell (or whatever you want to call it - looks like a steamroom near the end of the game...) - it'd exit to that - ugh - forgot the screen - but it's essentially the same thing that launches the Doom game - and have a wall of text errors. Phantasmagoria II was the only game, however, I was completely stopped from finishing. KQ and QFG were my own games; so I contacted Sierra and got the fixes from them. Phantasmagoria II was my friend's game and so he never bothered and thus we never finished it. (I don't know that I ever finished it...)

What's the log bug from KQ6?

I just found this - anybody ever noticed here?

King's Quest V: Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder!: Play the DOS version with the CD for the Windows version in your disc drive. The game will try to read the audio files off of the disc... the wrong audio files. You'll get entirely the wrong dialogue being played with entirely the wrong scenes, turning the plot into gobbledygook, in addition to sound effects replacing dialogue, dialogue bits replacing sound effects, songs from nowhere, hammers going "boo-boop" and rivers telling you to quit.

The Out of Heap or Memory error (whichever it was).

These are a couple of minor glitches and oddities that I noticed:

Near the end of Phantasmagoria 2 you have to use an item on a force field or something. When you float the cursor over the field, the cursor changes color meaning you can use the item on the field, but if you click on it, nothing happens. I figured this out by accident, but you have to RIGHT click on it for some reason. The right mouse button is never used in the rest of the game, so somehow this has to be a bug.

There was a Y2K bug in QFG5 that was patched at some point. The save game screen would list Dec. 31, 1999 as 12/31/99 for the save date, but when 2000 rolled around, January 1, 2000 was displayed as 01/01/100.

I found this a long time ago in PQ1 that I kind of found amusing. You can clone Steve. Look at the left table.

When you have Sonny sit while he is walking (i.e. he is in motion) he will turn into Steve for some reason.

Towards the end of the game at the hotel, you have Marie following you around. If you don't move when you reach the screen where your hotel room is, she will appear right next to you and then begin "climbing the walls". She will walk around the screen where the wall is supposed to be.
