So ... I'm stuck in Laura Bow 2, also. :( Any help?

Feeling like this game could be murder... literally? Well, come on in here for some extra detective work (and clues/hints/etc!) for the Laura Bow games (The Colonel's Bequest and The Dagger of Amon Ra).

So ... I'm stuck in Laura Bow 2, also. :( Any help?

Post by Rath Darkblade »

Hi all,

so I started Laura Bow 2. I've never played any LB before, but I've heard good things about it and I like the idea (and Art Deco! Love the Art Deco style!), so ... :)

Act 1 (A Nose for News) was pretty easy, but now I'm stuck in the museum and not sure how to proceed. :( I've spoken to all the usual suspects about everything, I sneaked into the gift shop (and found the real dagger - why, oh why couldn't I just tell someone that it's there? But that'd be the end of the game :P) ... and now, I'm stuck. :(

I consulted the SHP walkthru and found that I'm supposed to eavesdrop on people's conversation (by standing behind them) and meet Steve Dorian. Well, I did stand behind people - but nothing happens. I also waited, and waited, and waited for Steve to show up ... but he doesn't. So, I'm stuck! :(

Any ideas what I should do? Spoilers are welcome. :) Thanks!

So when you go to stand behind people - if I remember correctly - there's places to "hide" slightly. Like if people are standing in front of a table, there's a statue that you can go stand behind.

If you stand directly behind them, I don't think they talk.

I could be wrong however, it's been awhile since I played LB2.

Have you ever played the first LB? If not, why aren't you starting there? :D

I watched a few videos of LB1, and it simply didn't appeal to me. Sorry. *shrug*

Thanks for your help! I'll try LB2 some more after dinner. ;)

Oh. Dude. If you're basing your lack of interest on someone else's ... you're missing out.

To me, LB1 is better than LB2. LB2 has more character development I think, but LB1 has way more to do, I feel like it - and has a better "vibe" in the game itself.

It was literally the inspiration for me making Final Soul.

Hey, I never said that I let someone else's indifference or apathy affect me. ;) I simply watched those videos to gain a measure of what the game play was like, the characters, the setting etc. LB2 appealed more to me than LB1, that's all. :)

I tried LB2 a little more last night, and found I was finally getting somewhere in the museum! :D I couldn't "hide" behind anything, but after experimenting a little, I found the spots I needed to stand to trigger those "eavesdropping" cut-scenes ... and met up with Steve Dorian again. He and Laura really seem to hit it off. (Of course, the course of love, etc. etc...)

I'll try LB2 some more and see how I go. The whole "Laura Bow" universe is still new to me, but I'm learning ... ;)

Well I hope you do give LB1 a swing too, even after LB2.
And see how great it is. :D

No problem. So far I like the atmosphere in LB2. Laura appears to be playing the part of "an innocent abroad" - she is very, very innocent. She doesn't appear to suspect anyone or anything. It seems that she thinks bad things should only happen to other people, not to her.

Really, after the events of LB1, you'd think she'd learn ... ;)

So, I like it so far, and I think I'll give LB1 a go once I'm done with LB2. :)

Sigh ... stuck again. :( It's nearing the end of Act 3 (where lots of people get killed in gruesome ways), and I just met Dr Myklos in her office. She goes off to see Ernie, I had a scraping sound, and the entry to the underground is now closed.. :(

When will it be open again? Or can I open it myself?

Thanks! :D
==============
EDIT - Whoops! I forgot I could open it myself by manipulating the head of Rodin's Thinker. My mistake! Don't mind me, then. Off I go to the Museum again ... hopefully to finally make it to Act 4! :D

Yay! After much trying and dying, errors and terrors, I'm done, done, done - finished playing Laura Bow 2. :) It was fun, and I answered the Coroner rightly. Yay! :)

I was pleasantly surprised to see some familiar names among the cast, such as:

Josh Mandel ... Steve Dorian / Crodfoller T. Rhubarb / Henri Le Mort / Rocco The Taxi Driver / Rex The Talking Dinosaur ;)
Robert Holmes ... Writing Man
Scott Murphy ... Additional Voices
AND
Jane Jensen ... The Speakeasy Flapper

I was also surprised at another thing: Kelli Spurgeon playing Dr Myklos had a wery stronk Slavic accent, which reminded me of Baba Yaga from QfG4. But to my surprise, it wasn't the same person - Baba Yaga was played by Susan Silo.

At any rate, now I know more about Laura Bow. Huzzah for finishing classic games, at long last. :)

Because we're not sure when that's coming out. Colonel's Bequest is amazing and beautiful and fun. Way more "cool" things to do in it and things to find. And I feel like the characters had more depth in the first one, but that might just be me. I really enjoyed the first one. It's literally what inspired my little text adventure game, Final Soul. (I wish I still had the source code so I could fix some bugs that are in it, ah well).

All right ... I'll add TCB to my list of games to play. ;)

I've just finished a bunch of games (LB2, Sam and Max Hit the Road), and nearly finished The Darkest Dungeon. (I'm still waiting to play Blade Runner - I've heard good things about it, but never saw the film).

Hmmmm ..... I've read a little bit about LB1:TCB on GOG and wiki etc. - just what the gameplay is like, not what the story is (not in detail, anyhow).

Apparently, it's possible to miss quite vital clues because the game is devised in time-blocks. So if I miss a conversation or a vital clue because there's no time, then later, I'm stuck (or give the wrong conclusions). :( It sounds very much like LB2 (and the later GK3).

That seems rather unfair. How can I solve a mystery properly, if I don't have the time to get all the facts?
