You wouldn't have thought Sam had it in him to be an adventurer, but maybe he does. I just started re-playing QfG5, and he says (if you ask him about Silmaria):

"Adventurers think they can fight monsters forever. Next thing they know, they are begging in alleyways. A sad fate for a once respectable Hero. So save today to keep the alleys away, I always say."

Thing is, we met him before in Spielburg (in QfG1). As he says in QfG5 (if you tell him about yourself):

"I thought you lookd familiar. Yeah, we met in Spielburg where I was working the alley as a professional panhandler."

So he should know all there is to know about begging. But now I wonder: maybe Sam was an adventurer before he became a beggar. So he'd be talking from experience. What do you think?

From adventurer to beggar to banker, he's still getting other people to give him money!

I've only played QFGV once - and I don't think I ever got around to finishing it (for whatever reason).
But I feel like - with the Coles - that's the intention.
In QFG1, people give him money as a beggar. QfGV, people give him money as a banker.
And based off the dialogue, it does sound like he was an adventurer himself; or knew of an adventurer who went that route.
Or, that he's simply a rogue.

Hmm ... maybe he was a rogue in QfG1, but he couldn't afford the "membership fees" (1 gold or 10 silvers, if I remember). So, they threw him out until he could pay. But he couldn't, so he became a beggar instead.

Thing is, being a rogue is not "respectable" (to quote Sam). Say -- maybe that's a reference to a more "respectable" Sam?
