LOL ... yep, very nice. Fade in and out pictures of the LSL1 box, Al Lowe in shorts etc... (I don't want to think too much about the latter picture).

Yeah the Dandy 1000 SX is a reference is a Tandy 1000 SX I owned.

But yes, the fun edit - was adding the LSL1 boxes, then the Al Lowe photos (x2) and the LSL1 VGA disk images.

Just curious - which software did you use to fade them in an out? *curious* I've played around with Microsoft Movie Maker (and created a few videos), but I don't think it has that feature. I guess you used something else?

So way back when I first started Neverending Nights - I also used Windows Movie Maker. Which was fine, because it was free - and free is a nice price.
However, WMM compresses the Hades out of videos when it saves as a .WMV file, so that things look grainy.

So when I decided to redo Neverending Nights, Travis who did the music for NeN in Season 2 and 3 turned me on to Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10.

Which now allowed me to do much more - in terms of editing, effects, saving options, etc.

I then bought Sony Movie Studio 13, which is what I am using these days (which is why I began redoing NeN in 1080p and such).

The version I am using, is considered out dated, however these days.

They're now on 19, which does the dreaded "monthly/yearly plan" - similar to Microsoft Office these days.

So I will never upgrade to that.

I think 18 was the last version that didn't do the monthly/yearly plan thing.

But 13 does everything I want. 1080p. I can make DVDs or Blurays (which I did for Neverending Nights).

So I don't see needing to change anytime soon.

You can find the version I use online - like Amazon has it for $79 (US Dollars, not sure what the Aussie cost is) but there's the standard flair which is $69.

Forgot to answer this - so this was something new I tested specific to making this video thing to see if it'd work (which there was no reason that it wouldn't).
I laid the image down - shrunk it - moved it into position.
Then I spliced the image several times on the time line of the editor.
Then I went to each section of the splice, and changed the transparency in a random direction, so it would fade in and out, give that flickering image effect.

Hmm. When I make a video, I save it as an MP4 file (which isn't small - e.g. a 4-minute video is about 60 Mb). Does that format solve the graininess problem? I assume it would, otherwise what's the point of having such a big file? *smile*

How does a .WMV file-size compare to MP4? I'm only concerned that people with a slow, limited or intermittent connection (which does happen) can still access the videos I put online.

Aha ... I understand. Thanks! *looks into it...* Hmm. In Aussie dollars, it's just over $110 (including shipping). Fair enough - for a package that's at least semi-professional, I'd expect to pay something like that.

I've not used Windows Movie Maker in awhile; back when I was using it, I think the only format it rendered to was .WMV (which was a smaller file size and much grainer).

Ah, OK. WMV is still one of the options, but they've added other formats (e.g. MP4).

If everything is the same (same video resolution, same length, etc), yes - WMV will be smaller in file size than MP4.

And, since I am not experienced with Windows Movie Maker in a long time - I imagine, if you do MP4 you're going to get better video quality through Windows Movie Maker by selecting MP4 over WMV.
