I guess it's not based on Inquisition, because if it was everyone would be bald. (Seriously, the hair in that game was atrocious. Who the hell needs 10 different kinds of shaved head/bald styles?)

It's been too long since I played DA:I, I don't remember the hair issue.

Been a long time for me, too, but I remember it because the hair styles were terrible. I just wanted a classic side-part (which, for some reason or another, younger Millennials and GenZ are now calling a "comb over" but to me that's NOT a comb over) and as far as I can recall, that wasn't there. It was worse for Maia who wanted a more feminine hair style, preferably with long hair, but that wasn't available either.

Sigh. I haven't played DA:I since it came out, but let me guess: for women, all that was available was either a bushy clump on top of your head (and shaved otherwise), or a short bob (or bald?)

But yes, I agree. What kind of world is it where everyone's either bald or has a short bob? And for that matter, where are all the barbers? They're making a fortune, and you never even see them. What are they, ninjas? Where the heck are they?

Maybe I'll start a game of DA:I again ... just so I can capture a barber. And interrogate him. Or call Bioware support: "Yeah, there don't seem to be scissors or a comb in this game..."

Now I can just imagine the next game: Dragon Age: Barbershop Quartet. You don't go out and fight a dragon, you just charm it with barbershop ditties and give it an immaculate coiffure. And then you bash its head in.

Aaanyway, as for the trailer ... as to be expected, it tells us nothing at all. But I'd say it takes place sometime before the start of DA1. Why? Watch closely: at 0:24, you briefly see Flemeth (from behind). At 0:37, you briefly see Duncan (although he has a mace). And Duncan dies during DA1.

Of course I may be wildly wrong, but hey. That's my guess ...

I guess to some people it's a "comb over" if you're combing any part of the hair over to one side or another, but to me — and anyone else around my age range, which includes you, Rath — there's a huge difference between a "side part" and a "comb over."

In real life, my hair is side-parted, and despite my hair getting somewhat thinner (it's to be expected, I'm almost 43), I do NOT have a comb over.

Pretty much. Most guys don't want to be bald, and even fewer women. Besides, it's a fantasy setting, so having long, flowing hair isn't out of place, like it might be in the Mass Effect games.

Did you visit Orlais in DA:I? Practically everyone — including the women! — were bald, which is nuts to begin with, but especially at a large gala where everyone dressed up. Most women would've wanted to do something elaborate with their hair in that situation, especially if they were nobility of some sort... yet, most of them had incredibly short hair (in standard DA:I styles) or looked like Ilia from Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

The funny thing is BioWare could've made quite a bit of extra money by releasing "hairstyle packs" as DLC. I think the only reason they didn't do it is because the Frostbite engine wasn't made for RPGs (it was designed for first-person shooters, such as the Battlefield series) and was very difficult to work with.

Meh. I'm 46, and genetics has cursed me with male pattern baldness. It's still a better look than a combover.

Yes, I visited Orlais (and enjoyed the gala). That's funny: I don't remember everyone there being bald, with the exception of Vivienne. But maybe I'm remembering it wrong? It's been years since I played it.

The funny thing is this: Orlais is obviously based on Renaissance France (roughly Louis XIII - he of "Three Musketeers" fame - to Louis XVI). During that era, the upper-class - both men and women - shaved their heads and wore elaborate wigs. It may seem strange to us, but Louis XIII wore a wig to cover up his premature baldness; and in Renaissance France, the upper class copied everything the king did. (This ridiculous trend even went as far as getting unnecessary operations, just because the king had to have them).

So ... it looks like Bioware read the history, but only got as far as "shaved head" and forgot about the wigs.
