Let's face it, Quest for Glory (and other Sierra games) have many ways to die that depend on puns and wordplay. But that's not what I mean; I'm talking about ways to die that depend on the hero being a complete idiot.

The rules are quite simple: just think up a really stupid way that the QfG hero (or the protagonist in any other game - I'm just using QfG because it's the most familiar to me) can die. In short, it's the Sierra games meet the Darwin Awards.

So, to continue the proud tradition of heroes being utter morons, we here at the R.I.L.W.O.T.H. (Rath Institute for the Lightly Whacked On The Head), in cooperation with the R.I.S.C. (Rath Institute for the Slightly Concussed), present...

Dumb Ways to Die in ... Quest for Glory 1

1. The hero enters the Katta's Tail Inn and scratches Shameen behind the ears, to see if he will purr. Shameen is so offended that he swats the hero away. Shameen has claws, but doesn't wash his hands. (Spielburg doesn't have soap, alas!) The hero gets septicemia and dies.

2. Roger Wilco places the glowing gem in his mouth - not realizing, the high level of radiation within the gem is what makes it glow. It's not pretty.

QfG1.
3. The hero shouts into the Little Old Sleeping Lady's ear, to wake her up. She wakes up with a start and kicks the hero between the legs. Unfortunately, she has steel capped boots on.

Even if this doesn't kill the hero, it will make him wish it did.

Does anyone wish to continue this? I know the QfG ones best, obviously.

QfG1.
- The hero jumps on Heinrich the Gardening Centaur's back and shouts "Giddiyup, horsey!" Heinrich uses his iron-tipped rake to rake the hero off his back.

The hero asks Hilde, the fruit-selling centaur in QfG1, for a date. She gives him a date from one of Shapeir's date palm trees. Unfortunately, it was improperly stored while on the long journey from Shapeir to Spielburg, so it's spoiled. The hero eats it and gets severe stomach cramps.

I guess no-one wants to play this game?

Pick any Sierra game you like, not necessarily Quest for Glory. It's fun.

One thing I am not clear on - is it dumb ways of dying in the game specifically? Or can fictional ones, based on games, be created?

Like saying King Graham dove from the top of the beanstalk in KQ1 hoping to land in the lake near by... and missed.

It's basically anything that the main character can do in the game, whether it's programmed or not.

For instance ... Quest for Glory 1.
The hero visits Erasmus and laughs at his jokes.

Then Erasmus asks a serious question - "do you want to play Mage's Maze?" - and the hero laughs.

Erasmus is offended and turns the hero into a louse. (It's only temporary. The hero gets better).

In Leisure Suit Larry 1, Larry Laffer believes he will need the batteries for later in the game, so he removes them from the remote.
When he hands the remote to the pimp - the pimp grows furious and thinks Larry is trying to punk him and proceeds to throw Larry out into the other alley, where he is then mugged.

But I am curious. Which "other alley" is that? Whenever Larry goes into an alley, he is beaten up (except that alley behind the bar, where the dumpster is).

In Quest for Glory 2, the hero watches the katta playing a flute for a dancing cobra. The hero pets the cobra ..... surprise, surprise, the cobra bites the hero.

In PQ1, Sonny enters the poker game... not knowing how to play poker at all.
