Wikis and SHP Forums Restored

Post by Collector »

SHP was migrated (unrequested) to another server. This process broke the Wikis and forums. The supposed "techs" moved it with no regard to required PHP versions. This caused it to throw 403 and other errors. Support staff was mostly worthless, but managed fix it on my own.

Now the fun of finding where on SHP you have the forum URL pointing to the old URL to update it. :(

I have the entire site in Dreamwever, so a site wide search and replace of the URL will be quick and easy. People will need to update their bookmarks as any PHP version change to the base site will break the forums at the old address. In its own subdomain I can set the PHP version for the forums regardless of the main site's version. People, update your bookmarks to:

Yeah - I emailed the common forum users (as QBix noted) to make them aware of the new forum URL.
I wonder if a redirect from the old to the new is possible? I know there's html code that can do it. Just for a short time?
Over all, not that big of a deal. I'd imagine someone who has the old url bookmarked and gets an error would just go to the front main page - and then click the forum link from there.

That would probably create an infinite redirect loop since it still resides in the same folder. I guess I could capitalize the "F" and create a new "forums" directory. Since it is on a linux server you can have both subfolders. Then have a redirect to the new subdomain from the lowercase folder. I'll look into it when I get a couple of days off.

This is weird. The forum is still opening for me from the old link, i.e. www.sierrahelp.com/forums. See for yourselves - I uploaded a screenshot.
What the heck?

So, SHP is available to me through the old link and the new one. (I'm using Microsoft Edge to do this; Google Chrome won't let me in).

The new link is not displaying the little "Sierra" icon, but I know that's relatively a very small problem! :)

I can confirm that the /forums old url works in Edge for me, as well, but not Chrome.
Although, Rath - I'd use the new URL, since you're already experiencing disappearing posts from time to time.
