GOG question ... sigh.

So, I have my computer set up and ready to roll. I reinstalled GOG (v. 1.2.68 or later - I can't recall now) last night, and re-verified all my games on it.

Unfortunately, when I tried starting it this morning, it told me:

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0150002). Click ok to close the application

...and kicked me back to Windows.

Well, there's a surprise, and not a welcome one. I tried everything I could think of: I googled what this error means, ran a Windows Safety Scanner (which took nearly 5 hours, and found nothing), and ... sigh.

This is especially vexing, since GOG was working fine last night.

When I just searched this phrase now, I found this: Fixing your MS Visual C++ Runtime Libraries

I'll give it a try, but is there anything else I can try?

***EDIT*** Well ... I gave it a try, restarted my computer, and ... *drumroll* Same error. Nothing. Nada.

If there's no other choice, maybe I should uninstall GOG Galaxy 1.2.xx and install GOG Galaxy 2? *shrug* I've always been dead set against it, since the beta version was such a stinker. (Plus, it forces you to sign in and go online before you can play a game, which always rubbed me the wrong way. Having to look at ads for games I don't even want, before I can play the games I like? Blow that!)

Anyway, has GOG Galaxy 2.0 come out of beta yet? Have you had any issues with it? *curious*

I never use GoG galaxy, myself. I always do the offline downloads.

I'm confused. By "offline downloads", what do you mean? Surely you have to be online to download anything.

I realise that I still have access to the GOG games I downloaded - they're in the "Games" directory under the "GOG Galaxy" directory, and I can launch them. But without GOG Galaxy, if I purchase a new game at GOG, how can I download it?

GoG Galaxy is an add in that GoG uses (similar to the Steam client).
Rather than use that. If you go to your Library of games. Click a game. You have an option to download the "offline version" of the game.
Meaning you install it where ever and play it without GoG Galaxy interfering.

After purchasing a game, you can log into the website and download an installer. You don't need Galaxy at all to run games unless it has an online component. No Man's Sky is one that comes to mind that needs Galaxy for the multiplayer.

I would have guessed that maybe the older version would not be compatible with Windows 11, but if you had it running earlier that's not the case. Galaxy 2.0 is still calling itself a Beta. Current version 2.0.67. Overall it's fine. It's really not much different than Steam in terms of ads.

The only way I've been able to even see my Library of games was through GOG Galaxy. For instance, I went to CivCity Rome (a game that I own), but there's no option to download an installer.

However, it is now available on my hard-drive - under the "GOG Galaxy" subdirectory, which leads to the "Games" subdirectory. In "Games", I can see all the games I downloaded through the GOG Galaxy client. I can launch them all from there, without having to launch Galaxy first.

That leads on to my next question: if the only way to run a game is download it through Galaxy, and I can't run Galaxy ... what do I do?

I've no idea what went wrong, but I think this happened:

1. I installed the original GOG Galaxy (version 1.2.69 or so) on what was then my C drive.

2. When my computer died, I got a new one, and my C drive became my D drive.

3. So now, I was running - or trying to run - Galaxy from the D drive instead of C drive.

Maybe that's why it's giving me errors? But if so, what can I do?

You can access your library by logging in to gog.com. Under your account name, there will be an item called "Games". That's where all the games you own are stored and you can download the offline installer as Tawmis has shown above.

Yeah, as they said, some games will require Galaxy - but I think those are the more modern games that require online stuff.
But for the good ol' classics? No Galaxy needed.
