Re: 40th Anniversary of King's Quest.
It's easy to see that Roberta worked on the box for KQ5. It's also one of my favourites (both the box and the game, regardless of how much I diss Cedric the owl for being a chicken a wuss a coward reeeeeeeeeeally cautious).
(And here's a KQ5 song (to the tune of "Brave Sir Robin"!)
Brave and bold Sir Graham
set off from Daventry!
Cedric was afraid to die,
so chicken-hearted!
Cedric always said to Graham, "Oh, do not go that way!"
Scared, scared, scared, wussy Cedric!
...
Ahhh, it'll never work.)
Why does Roberta not have the box for KQ8? Possibly because it didn't sell so well? *shrug*
I agree that KQ3 was a different and unique game, especially in terms of magic spells.
I like the image on LarryLaffer.net. Yellow Graham walking behind Roberta was unexpected and funny.
At about the 8-minute mark, the little doggie shows up at the door. Aw.
I agree that Colossal Cave has a wonderful design. It's a legendary game. (The first-person perspective is great, and fits Colossal Cave very well. Of course Bethesda did the same for their Elder Scrolls games).
Adventure games are retro? Maybe. But they're still my favourite genre, even though I'm a old greybeard dinosaur gamer, corn-sarn-it! Kiddie Gamers These Days(TM) don't know what they're missing. Why, when I was their age ... *grampa Rath sits down and tells stories about adventure games that would make no sense to Kiddie Gamers These Days(TM)*
I'm so glad to hear Roberta saying she loves working with teams and not taking sole credit. That's the way it should be. Games are large projects, and it's impossible to create one alone. So it's important to give credit to the teams too.
Thanks for linking to this, Tawm
