[2024] A Game of Games.

Post by *The Butler »

To help provide clues as to who is hiding behind a MASQ... this game is a simple one.

You challenge the next post to post about one game category of you choice from down below, after you answer the previous post.

The game must be one you've at least played - even if you didn't like it, you can post about it.

Reply with the name of the game you're speaking of, then what you liked, didn't like, memories, something about a game to that genre.

The category of games (and some examples) are -

Action games (Donkey Kong, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Space Invaders, etc)
Action-adventure games (Legend of Zelda, Resident Evil, Castlevania, etc)
Adventure games (King's Quest, Final Soul, Hitch Hiker's Guide To the Galaxy, Leisure Suit Larry, etc)
Role-playing games (Mass Effect, Fallout, Dragon Age, Neverwinter Nights, Rogue, EverQuest, World of Warcraft, etc)
Simulation games (Sim City, The Sims, etc)
Strategy games (Warcraft, Starcraft, Command & Conquer, Civilizations, Age of Empires, etc)
Sports games (Well, this should be obvious...)
Puzzle games (Tetris, and the like)
Idle games (Chess, Checkers, Minecraft, etc)

So for example, if I said "Tell me about an adventure game you played" - someone might reply, "Codename Iceman, and it was difficult. I want the next person to tell me about a role playing game they played" and so on and so on.

So I will make this start off easy - I am asking for the next poster to talk about an Adventure Game (title) that they played.
Mrs. White, you've been paying our friend, the blackmailer, ever since your husband died under, shall we say, mysterious circumstances?

One of my favorite non-Sierra adventure games was Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Really good puzzles and several different ways to solve them. That's why the points system had two numbers: one for your current game and the other for multiple playthroughs as you solve each puzzle a different way.

What puzzle games have you played?

IMurmble! I have seen too many kids addicted to their little GameBoy-screen addicted to Tetris. And usually their dads set the poor example.

Me I got the record amount of Z blocks in one game of all the Care Bears.

I was never much into strategy games. I did play Age of Wonders 4 recently, but I have a hard time getting into them.

What's a simulation game that you've played?

Recently I tried my hand at Lawn Mower Simulator. I wouldn't recommend it.

Tell me about an adventure game you played.

I recently played the AR-K games, not to be confused with ARK: Survival Evolved. I'm not even sure when or why I got these. But they were not very good. Unlikable protagonist. Not very good puzzles. And it's three games of a quadrilogy that likely won't ever see the final game.

Tell me about an RPG you played.

One RPG that really stuck with me is Neverwinter Nights. I loved how flexible it was—whether you wanted to follow the campaign or build your own adventures, it gave you the tools. The combat was decent, but the real draw for me was the story and the ability to roleplay with friends in a custom-made world. The Aurora Toolset allowed for some incredibly creative community content as well, which kept it alive long after finishing the main game.

Now, tell me about a puzzle game you’ve played!

I think Portal counts as a puzzle game and it is one of my favorite games. The portal gun is a really clever game mechanic. The levels increase in difficulty at a nice pace. And GLaDOS is one of the all-time great game characters.

What's an action game that you've played?

An action game I’ve always enjoyed is Mortal Kombat. I’ll admit, it wasn’t just about the gameplay but also the over-the-top fatalities that made it stand out back in the day. The characters were unique, and the combos gave a sense of mastery if you practiced long enough. Of course, it’s not without its frustrations—getting juggled in a corner still brings up bad memories—but the satisfaction of landing that finishing move was always worth it.

Now, how about telling me about an action-adventure game you’ve played?

I recently played "Ori and the Will of the Wisps". Both Ori games look amazing and have a great stories to them. They are pretty fun to play, though I am not really used to "Metroidvania"-type games, so they could be a little frustrating at times.

What's an adventure game that you played? To make it a little more interesting, make it a non-Sierra game.

For a non-Sierra adventure game, I’d go with The Secret of Monkey Island. The humor was spot-on, and Guybrush Threepwood’s journey to become a pirate was both ridiculous and unforgettable. I loved the insult sword fighting mechanic—nothing like defeating enemies by being the wittiest! The puzzles were challenging in that classic “point-and-click” way where logic sometimes went out the window, but it was worth it for the laughs and clever dialogue.

Now let’s shift gears—tell me about a sports game you’ve played!

Hrmpf! Sport games are boring. The closest I came to sports games is Duck Life.

Tell me about a rhythm game you played.
