GK2 Ch 6 Issue

Hey,
Today I took a deep breath, finished chapter 5 and went on to chapter 6 of GK2.
The first thing I did was talk to Gabriel. Then I talked to him again.
But I don't know what they said the second time. The sound completely went away in that video, and it wasn't my speaker set.

The same thing happened later on in a vid with Mrs Smith.

I'm playing GK2 on a 32bit Vista in DOSBox. Can anyone help? I'm afraid I might miss out on some clues. Not to mention it does disturb the gameplay and atmosphere.

Is this with the DOSBox DVD installer or from the original CDs?

Are you refreshing the drive cache after swapping discs?

:?: Apparently not. But that was no problem before.
Plus I'd saved (and quit) the game after the GK video skipped, and when the Mrs Smith video didn't play its audio I'd started up DOSBox and mounted D: with CD6 in the drive anyway.

Everything looks as it should. This one has me stumped. I believe that the sound is included with the VMD movie files, so if it can read the video, it should be able to read the audio, but check the condition of CD6, anyway. DOSBox takes the Vista factor out of the equation. There are sometimes issues with the Sierra SoundBlaster driver, but there is no other options with GK2. The one official patch addresses a number of problems, but nothing related to this. I would be interested in knowing if there is the same problem with the DOSBox DVD installer. Could you upload your save game from the end of disc 5?

I can't, I'm afraid, I saved over it. Stupid. :?
The disks are in great condition and the VMDs just play properly in SCI Resource Viewer.

Oh well. If you encounter anything like it again please save a save game from before so I can take a look.

Bonny, you have the Sierra Originals version of GK2, right? I can run that one without a problem on XP without the use of DOSBox. I don't know about Vista, but it's worth a shot. Perhaps play around a bit with the compatibility settings if necessary. See if that makes a difference with the sound.

Well... I could... but I do vividly recall my Phantasmagoria issues and my LSL5 issues... But I'll give it a shot as soon as I've finished the basement puzzle, which may/will take a while. Stay tuned!

I notified the Catholic church of another miracle: I actually got to run a programme on 32-bit Vista without a hitch!
GK2 Sierra Originals runs without pretty much any issues. The Ch 6 basement running could've been a bit smoother and the frame where you give Von Glower the push was a different one (so I got myself killed twice this time around), but the game itself worked. No sound issues either.

I did have the same problems anyone has with the installer, and Autorun doesn't see that the game is installed when it actually is.
