Problem in both Collector's DOSBox installer and Endorz's

Post by falador »

Hi Everyone,

First of all - I'm new here, pleased to meet you :)

It's 15 minutes to 3:00, and I'm begging for help, after not finding it using the search function, Google, and just about anywhere :(.

I've come across two problems, one with each installer:

In Collector's DOSBox installer, the installer asks me to put the CDs in drive E:, while the disc images are on drive G:. Since my burner is a little on the not-working side, I can't burn the images and put them in drive E:, which is the "real" drive.

In Endorz's installer, I encountered a problem which is more annoying than anything else (it also happened in GK1's installer). The installer runs great, no problems in-between, the uniSCI part works fine, and it looks like I'll be playing in no time. But, when everything's done, I double-click the shortcut made by the installer, the screen goes black, and returns to windows. That's it. I've been trying to see if there's some sort of error using the windows' command prompt, but it just shows:
C:\...\Games> Gabriel Knight II - The Beast Within.lnk (enter)

C:\...\Games>
The compatibility tab in the shortcut properties is all checked.

Also tried running in windowed mode, but no cigar.

System background:
I'm using Microsoft Windows XP SP3 + Windows updates, plenty of HD space.

Thanks very much in advance!

Welcome to the forums. I am in the process of rewriting the installers to address problems that have surfaced. I can't say when I'll get around to redoing the GK installers. You can get around the problem with my installer by going to the Computer Management console (right click on "My Computer" and choose "Manage"), going to the Disk Management and changing the drive letter assignments of your real and or emulated CD drives (right click on the drive and choose "Change Drive Letter") so that the emulated CD drive is before the real drive. As the installer will look at the first CD drive, if the first is the emulated one, it will use that one.

Much obliged, Collector :)

After that little tinkering, it works perfectly!
