King's Quest VII / WinXP (DOSBox): Checksum error 0.CHK

Hi,
I tried to install and update King's Quest VII on WinXP and got an error while trying to perform the update. Before I even can get to the DOSBox part, the black cmd.exe windows lists the following lines:

[...]
Verify patch version:
v.> \0.CHK
Checksum error in source file: "C:\Sierra\KQ7\0.CHK"

I have a German "Sierra Originals" CD. The "VERSION" file is 10 characters long and contains the string "1.51".
I tried the KQ7_151-2DOSUpdate.exe as well as the KQ7v151ForDOSBox.exe. I run the latest version of D-FEND with DOSBox 0.73.

Per DOSBox, the 0.CHK file is 138,652 Byte, dated 12-12-1994 14:04
My C: drive where KQ7 gets installed is NTFS if that matters.

I have seen this error in this forum once. Unfortunately there was no solution posted.

Ideas?

Hans

I don't believe that it will work with localized versions and I would need the files from other versions to make installers for those versions.

To make sure that this is not an issue with the patcher or the downloaded file in my environment, I tried the complete installation under Wine (in Ubuntu 9.04LTS). Same result. Therefore, I agree with your assumption. My version is completely localized including German synchronization.

My next try will be to install an old Win 3.11 (where are my disks...?) in DOSBox.

Thanks for your reply!
