Best villain, round 1: King's Quest villains

I'll go for Manannan, cause he had no merci whatsoever for Alexander in KQ3. The smallest wrong step and he'd punish severely. Others are more merciful (Lolotte and Malicia come to mind) or not as much of a threat (Lucreto, Dracula, Mordack). Manannan is also the only villain who returns. Even as a cat, he was still a threat.

I go with Vizier Abdul Al Azred, which was ruthless and evil and in a wonderful VGA ;)

Surely one of the Black Cloaks though.

I put in a vote for Manannan too - mostly because he was the most difficult villain to beat.

I was leaning towards Alhazared too, but everyone made some very good arguments for Mannannan. The guy is prominently in your face, a total dick, and can kill you almost anywhere.

The Vizier. He is by far, the most developed of the lot. But then with Jane Jensen fleshing him out would anything else be expected?

I don't know if I'd say Manannan was the "best" villain (even though I voted for him), but he was certainly the toughest and most annoying to handle.

Manannan was definitely cruel, but I’m handing it to the Vizier. Killing princess Cassima’s parents and taking over the Land of the Green Isles for his own greed won my vote. So villainous!

I'm kind of surprised that Lolotte has received no votes.

She was technically probably my favorite, of the list above, mostly because of how much I loved King's Quest IV. But there was no nightmare villain to me more than Mannan... even now, if I think about replaying KQ3... it's the dread of dealing with him that I is most memorable (and not always in the best of ways)

Is true. He's the first reason I hesitate to replay it. You can't even be carrying certain inventory items when he shows up.

I'd say Hagatha the witch is the actual villain of KQ2 not Dracula. According to the King's Quest Companion, anyway. But I think it was actually in the manual that Hagatha was the villain who put Valanice in the tower. Dracula is just a side fantasy character.

Anyway, I chose Manannan as well. I almost went with the Vizier, but really he's not much of a villain. He's got some smarts but he gets everyone else to do his dirty work and hides in the castle like a coward. The only real abilities he has are smooth talking and sword fighting. The only magic he has is a genie. Manannan actually is pure evil and not just an unlikable character. He also has the power to back up his evilness. Probably the most powerful of any wizard. And the fact that a lowly peasant (who happens to be a member of the royal family) manages to undo him makes for a pretty great story and just sticks out as the best villain to deal with. He's also the only villain in the KQ series that you meet and defeat at the beginning of the game instead of the end. Very interesting.

At first glance none of the villains in the KQ series stood out as worse than the others. I would have gone with Lolotte just for KQ4 nostalgia (my first KQ, my first Sierra, and my first graphical adventure). However, others have raised good arguments for Manannan.

Now that I stop and think about it, I remember that feeling of dread running around trying to get stuff done in KQ3. Then he'd appear out of nowhere and say "GWYDION!" Gack! Besides, he was the most personally involved with the protagonist. He made his entire life miserable, not just a period of it. What a sick freak.

I know that launches the debug - but I don't think that gets rid of him? I remember doing an experiment where I launched the debugger, did the teleport - and ended up so far away from his house - HE STILL TELEPORTED AND FOUND ME!

It only works with certain versions of the game. Unfortunately debug mode has been disabled with the version that was shipped with the collections. It does work with the version on Ken Williams' site.
