Windows VISTA + DOSBox...

I just got a new laptop and it's still going through its auto configuration - but it came with Windows Vista (never used it before!) - so I was curious if DOSBox would work on Windows Vista? If it can, that's going to be great, because I will copy all my Sierra games and DOSBox onto it so I can always play'em when I am on the road or sitting in bed!

Awesome. That's what I wanted to hear. (Is there a way to get to DOS in Vista - well the "fake" dos that comes with Windows XP and such)? Because I am totally handicapped not having a "RUN" box anymore...

But for DOSBox, so I just install DOSBox and it launches like any other application I assume? Sweet. (I didn't get a chance to install it last night because Vista spent a good portion of the night updating a ton of things - mind you, by auto selecting my neighbor's wireless (rather than giving me a chance to put it on mine initially! Sorry neighbor!)

Yes, quite possible. Downsides?

I can't install qfg shadows of darkness, the isntallation thingy just won't work.

Other downsides? I can play Deathtrack even. Not really. Encountered no problems whatsoever apart from my floppy installation not wanting to run for some reason.

(That might be due to the fact I tried getting it from old floppydisks and so the problem might be on my end, not DOSBox's.)

64 bit Vista does not have the NTVDM, but 32 bit still has it, however, you might have display issues. You may not be able to go full DOS screen with Vista graphics card drivers, so some games might not even run without "downgrading" to XP drivers.

Use the search box, customize the start menu or hit the "'Windows key'+R"

I didn't get a chance to install it last night because Vista spent a good portion of the night updating a ton of things - mind you, by auto selecting my neighbor's wireless (rather than giving me a chance to put it on mine initially! Sorry neighbor!) LOL!

I had used a friend's connection that he hadn't changed the name from the default "Linksys" and when I got home with my laptop it connected to a neighbor's unsecured network named "Linksys" (ignoring my own secured network) running the Windows update, too.
