I have updated my KQ collection patch for DOSBox. No longer will a new patch be required when a new version DOSBox comes out. Also, I have made some other changes and additions, including Dave'O's solution for KQ6 Win in XP. I will later prepare a standalone package that will be included on the Sierra Help Pages. From the patch's new Readme:
New for this release: The latest DOSBox (http://DOSBox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1) must be installed in:
"C:\Program Files\DOSBox"
The new location for DOSBox will allow for the upgrade of DOSBox without the need of a new patch for the games. Just install newer versions of DOSBox to the same location after uninstalling or simply moving the old version. I am also including ScummVM shortcuts for the AGI games. The older patches included an open source AGI replacement from the defunct open source project, Sarien. Sarien has now been incorporated in the ScummVM project (www.scummvm.org) with improvements over the old Sarien, such as the ability to switch to full screen and uses the PC colors by default instead of the garish Amiga colors. The Sarien and NAGI files are no longer included. You must download and install ScummVM to use these shortcuts:
http://www.scummvm.org/downloads.php
Install it in:
"C:\Program Files\ScummVM"
New for King's Quest VI: Another user, David Gherbaz has found a version of the executable from another game that works with KQ6 Win. It does not have support for the opening Halfdome/Sierra logo morph or the intro movie, but does show the text of the intro without images or speech. It thankfully works without VDMS and does not suffer from the cursor bug under XP. If you wish to view these movies you can either just open the game's folder and double click on the .AVI files or start the game with the VDMS shortcut to watch the movies (I am still including the VDMS solution). Note that you will not be able to use save games between the two.
Another VOGONS user, Lazerith_444, discovered a fix for the jerky DOS intro in DOSBox. The Gabriel Knight 1 demo uses a VGA driver that does not suffer from this bug. Use of this driver for the DOS version of KQ6 eliminates this problem, so I have included this driver.
Misc: you will now find new high rez game icons that I made from cover scans.
