So looking at what we know -

I came from something
Not what you might think at first
Both of us are fake

- Determined in Colonel's Bequest
- Was created/made, rather than born (Whoops, this would have taken out the horse, and the people!)
- Yes to the question: By fake, do you mean there is a real "one of you" somewhere in the game world?
- Not an inventory item
- Not any of the secret passage ways (clock, mirror, closets, etc)
- Not alive (so not the horse, or people)
- Stationary (so doesn't leave the location, again rules out people and the horse)

Freeby clue because we are horrible -
I am there and then I am gone.

Are you the painting (more specifically the "eyes" of the painting)?
Would explain that the painting was made.
Both are fake (the eye sockets as well as the painting)
