That's actually pretty genius. I still have a 3.5 inch drive, but it's nonfunctional. I think it can still work with some coaxing like you did with the 5.25

To be very honest though, you should work towards digitally saving the files. I remember the old floppy days... they got bad a lot, and I mean A LOT. Corrupt disks that went bad for no reasons, the dreaded CRC error. They were a nightmare. CDs and DVDs do fail, but not to the same extent as the old floppies.

Besides, they wear out. I bought an original LSL 2 box that had all the original documents and disks in them (for $.50, too!) in both 3.5 and 5.25, as was common at the time these games were made. I never tested them. Do they still work? I do not know, but given that they're over 26 years old, I'd be surprised.

Welcome to SHP, Paladinlover! I believe that the biggest reason for floppy failure was mostly because a specific floppy controller that was used in many machines. My experience with the reliability of Sierra floppies has been mostly pretty good. I have encountered a few bad disks, but not anywhere near the level of those from others.

That said, I still have all of my floppy game files backed up. I used to burn them, but have since come to realize that hard drives are more reliable than burned discs.

True about the hard drives. Especially since hard disk space is becoming cheaper and larger, while the old files have stayed the same (can't say the same about the newer stuff. But the hard disk space is outpacing the increasing size of programs nowadays), storing them isn't a problem anymore. I haven't burned a backup DVD in a long, long time.

Ironically I just backed up my external drive on (QUITE A FEW!) DVDs...
