I suspect that's where it is - I always associate that room with the alley by Lefty's - I ... think... if you go off screen you still get mugged and killed at the Casino?

The Sierra game wallpaper page has screenshots of the SCI underground room, but the cameos from the other Sierra games are missing.

I don't think I ever saw it in the SCI, which makes sense because I already knew what to do with AGI version.
