Birthright Demo from PC Gamer CD

Some time ago I've seen an Internet demo of Birthright: The Gorgon's Alliance that appears to be earlier than, and is noticeably different from the demo available from this site's downloads database:

This demo consists of a self-running slideshow and actual playable part, and has executables both for DOS and Windows 95. Recently, I've encountered a rather similar but still different demo on the PC Gamer Volume 4 Number 1 (January 1997) cover CD. This one also starts with a slideshow, but it only has the Win95 executable, and seems to have more and/or higher quality game data (e.g. character animations in the preview window during territory/leader selection). I haven't compared the file modify dates, but this one seems to come from the same time as the downloadable demo I linked to above, and is thus of possible historical interest.

I haven't played the full version of Birthright, but I assume that the demo on the site is closer to it than the ones found elsewhere. There are quite a few noticeable differences in graphics (e.g. the icons on the map that represent guilds, arcane places and such; the map itself also looks differently), probably sounds and other things too. I assume that someone with a good knowledge of the game could document these differences and possibly outline some history of changes between versions
