Adobe Reader 10.1.8 Question

I know this forum is normally for non-Sierra games, but the forum is also for other tech questions - right?
I've been having trouble with Adobe Reader X since I upgraded from version 9 - basically, it is very, very slow. It takes forever to open the application, to open files, to close files... it takes about 2-3 seconds to scroll up or down, and this is a function that Reader 9 did pretty much instantaneously.
Is there anything that can be done (apart from downgrading to Adobe Reader 9)? I am running:
Windows 7 Home Premium
Intel Core i3 CPU 540 @ 3.07GHz
4.00 GB RAM (3.87 GB usable)
64-bit operating system
Thanks!

In Adobe Reader; try this. Go to HELP -> the REPAIR and let it try to fix itself.

Cheers, Tawm... I've just tried that and things are looking hopeful. I'll restart in a little while and hoping for the best. Fingers crossed...
*UPDATE, 5 minutes later...*
Restarted, and AR seems to be faster now. Still a little slow to load up, and it took me a couple of starts and re-starts to get it working - plus starting up Task Manager and closing down the extra AR processes that inexplicably show up - but once I've done that, AR opens and closes files and lets me scroll fairly quickly - much quicker than before. Thank you, Tawm!
Question: is this (i.e. starting up multiple AcrobatReader.exe processes) common behaviour for Acrobat Reader? I suspect that was the reason why it was so slow previously. Any ideas? Or are Adobe products just generally memory hogs?

I troubleshoot Adobe all day at work.
I am not a fan of Adobe products, and I will leave it at that.

Agreed.

OK, then!

I'm quite aware that Adobe Photoshop is a *huuuuuuuuuge* memory hog, but Adobe Reader was never this slow. Is there any other way to read a PDF file, though? I know that Micro$ucks Word will read them, but I'm using OpenOffice (which apparently won't). Sigh.
Any ideas? My version of OpenOffice is 3.3.0.
Thanks...

I actually like some Adobe products, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere and After Effects. I don't care for Adobe's new subscription-based software, however.
Unfortunately, too many people were pirating their software. Not being able to afford something doesn't give you a license to steal it. If it did, I wouldn't bother with something as small as software.
As for opening PDF files without Adobe Reader or Microsoft Word (honestly, I don't know why you dislike it so much, as the newer versions are great), there is plenty of free software out there that does it. Just Google "open pdf for free" and you'll find a bunch of them.
