Real Myst being removed from GOG

Cyan is removing the original release of Real Myst (made in 2000) from the GOG library at the end of the summer sale (so, today, in less than a few hours). Personally, I think this is a mistake. Sure it's not as pretty as the Remastered Real Myst, but they also removed a couple of the day/night cycles in certain ages (which sucks) and there's just a charm to these old graphics which were top of the line in their day. It should live forever in at least GOG, but nope. They're pulling it. It's like $2. Go grab it if you have been meaning to. Won't come again.

EDIT: Added Collector's Affiliate link portion to the Real Myst link. - Tawmis

Interesting. But it will continue to be available (for download) for those that purchase it, I assume?

Yeah. I still have a few GOG games in my online GOG library that have long since been removed from the store (along with all their bonus goodies) like XIII and the original Fallout releases.

Ah! See - for me it just says "Image" and doesn't show an image.
But quoting it - I can copy and paste the IMAGE url and it works.

The GOG sale is now over and Real Myst has been removed. However, it's still available on Steam at full price. I wonder for how much longer...

I grabbed both Myst and Riven before the sale ended. Thanks for the heads up!

This is very disappointing. Cyan Worlds are, of course, entitled to their opinion of the game, but this is a title that has been available for 18 years. It's well and truly out there and doing this won't make people forget it ever existed. Also, what of the consumers who do enjoy it? Does the opinion of someone who wishes to buy it count for nothing? The only thing removing it will accomplish is to increase the number of times it is pirated.

And Myst 3 and 4 have been added to GOG. It will be nice having them tweaked to run on modern systems. Myst 4 needed some coaxing to run when I installed it last.

Myst 3 now runs via ResidualVM (and Myst and Riven, ScummVM). They'll be hitting Steam in a month or so. For now, they're GOG exclusives.

Since I am so far behind in the games I am playing, I will wait till these go on sale.

That's been my strategy as well. It's taking so long to get through my backlog, it's not worth grabbing games when they come out. Unless I really, really want to play something (or if I have a physical copy already) I usually wait until a sale drops them to $1-$3.
