The Bioware Acquisitions Thread (image heavy)

Just because there's several Bioware fans on the forum - I figured we could snap pictures of the Bioware games we have and post them in this thread, like the New Acquisitions Thread (image heavy) (for Sierra games).

Well... I'm far too lazy to actually POST pictures, but these are the BioWare games we own:
  • Baldur's Gate
  • Baldur's Gate 2 w/ expansion pack
  • Neverwinter Nights w/ all expansion packs
  • Knights of the Old Republic (two copies -- the original I gave to Maia)
  • Jade Empire (I gave it to Maia since I never got around to playing it)
  • Mass Effect
  • Dragon Age
I don't think I missed anything. Although it's not an RPG, I also own MDK 2 which was developed by BioWare. The first mission involves an alien attack on Edmonton. I wonder why? ;)

Yeah, I was going to post that I was too lazy to take pictures as well. However, I was too lazy to post that. :D ;)

How about screenshots instead? We don't have to get too carried away and post every single one, but a few key screenshots may be fun. :)

For now I have:

1. Baldur's Gate (w/ all expansions) - I haven't played it yet.
2. Neverwinter Nights (w/ all expansion) - I'm playing it right now.
3. Jade Empire
4. Knights of the Old Republic
5. Mass Effect

As soon as I'll get a new PC, I'll get myself Dragon Age and I'll also be able to play Mass Effect to the fullest ;)

And yes, I agree with Maia: why not screenshots from the games? I surely know one from KotOR which is beyond amazing! :D

Maia just told me that we have the expansion to Baldur's Gate 1. :P

I wish I had my screen shots from KoTOR. Unfortunately, they're stored on a ZIP disk at my dad's house. Yes, I wrote "ZIP disk." :o

Come to think of it... I don't have ANY screen shots handy from any BioWare games...

I'll start with the two characters I'm currently testing on NWN, Edric Amberskin (Barbarian, left) and Ahras Ehn-Rhun (Sorcerer, right).

On a side note, I'm particularly proud of the Sorcerer's name, which in Sindarin means "Eye of an Eastern Deer"... Yes, I'm that nerdy! ;)

And now, one of my favorite KotOR screenshots: the character contemplates the fortuitous landing of the Ebon Hawk on an Unknown Planet, in company of Certh Onasi and Juhani (my favorites NPCs from KotOR).

Some of the worlds in KOTOR were gorgeous. I can see why you kept that picture, Andrea. There were a few in Mass Effect that were quite nice too.

I don't think I have any screenshots from KOTOR either. I have a few from Jade Empire, a few from Mass Effect, and a number from Dragon Age so far. I even dug up a few old NWN screenshots, but they're really bad, since I had a pathetic video card at the time (I don't think it actually met the game requirements, but somehow I still managed to play).

So once I go through them and pick the ones I like best, I'll post a few here. :)

Hmm... that might take a while. ;)

I can't really complain, though. Maia may take forever when creating a new character, but I take equally as long in Turn-Based Strategy games when constructing a new civilization.

- Dragon Age: Origins (Collector's Edition)
- Mass Effect (Collector's Edition)
- Jade Empire (Collector's Edition)
- Neverwinter Nights (All Expansions) x 2 (my copy & that of my wife)
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
- MDK
- Jade Empire Soundtrack
- Mass Effect Soundtrack
- Dragon Age Origin Soundtrack

I _had_ Baulder's Gate but for the life of me don't know where that ended up... I think because I had it on PC - it got shuffled somewhere.

OK, so here's a few screenshots. Just a warning, my graphics card was at the low end of requirements for both Jade Empire and NWN, so they don't look as good as they could. My card now is perfect for Dragon Age. :D

So you're playing a Human Noble Origin? How is it? Somewhere else I've heard some people complaining about it. What do you think of it?

(In JE, I can't even notice that your card was outdated. The screen is great. The Fox Heaven, right?)

I liked the human noble origin. I'm not really sure what people would complain about (except that some people always find something to complain about). The only thing negative that I can really say about it is that it felt a little short.

Maybe my video card wasn't outdated for JE. Since you've played it more recently than me, you probably have a better memory of that. I might be thinking of KOTOR. I think that I played on my laptop. Anyway, yes, I think you're right about the location. :)

Some complaints I've heard said that it is the least developed of the six origins, and that the characters are uninteresting, while almost everyone agrees that the Magi origin is the best. But I guess that I read fans' rants about their favorite origin/class like it happens in any RPG... In fact, I was scouring some forums about NWN the other day, and, man!, the supporters of each class can be pretty vocal and harsh about it ;)

Unfortunately, that type of behavior isn't limited to RPGs.

Maia and I play Team Fortress 2 together most nights and on some TF2 boards, you should read the overall bitching about each class. For instance... Maia likes to play the Pyro (he has a flamethrower and sets enemies on fire) and there's a thread dedicated to bashing the Pyro. People complain that the class "lacks skill" or is too "overpowered" and so on.

Honestly, I think they're simply annoyed that Pyros have killed them before, so they blame the opposing class instead of figuring out how to prevent those attacks and/or death. Every class has their pros and cons. Some classes naturally oppose another, such as Engineers and Spies (don't get Maia started on that subject).

It'd be nice if everyone could just relax and realize that no particular class is "better" than another in ANY game of ANY genre. It's all about what you like and how you want to play.
