See, to me the background "texture" of the gold looks like parchment to me. (I prefer the gold)

As for Graham being tanned; when you walk around all day, questing, you're bound to tan.

And he's probably darker on the gray box, because it's a bad scan.

#1 looks more like a magazine ad. The artwork for the cover should, again, show you what the game is about. Making the art focus on the people playing it seems a little odd. Pretty sure #1 was an attempt to grab the family vibe and show it's a game for the whole family. There's, no doubt a reason, ...

I also like the second one (maybe because that's the coloring I have so I am used to it) - but the gold color just... rings more with a KING's Quest to me.

SQ2 does look too similar to SQ1, though I do really like the insurance salesmen pods. SQ 4, 5, and 6 all look cartoony.
