What are you playing now?

Yeah, started at KQ6 for Jane Jensen, then KQ5 because all the yeti pies and Toegoff's unsuccessful Let's Play got me curious, then figured I might as well do the rest in reverse order. Once I tried to start at KQ1 and work my way up, but besides mapping every area I didn't get very far.
Let's see, after that I also have Mother Goose installed (which will be hard since I didn't grow up with those stories), still have Sam & Max Hit The Road, Full Throttle, two Monkey Islands, Necronomicon, Sanitarium and The Longest Journey lying around... Oh wait! I never even got far in Shivers II, should try that...

But back to Sierra and their parser... was it really lazy programming or was it a limit on the parser?

You know if it was lazy programming - a shame these games aren't freeware... Because we could use the AGI/SCI Editors to go in there - and add some additional options (like "Open Mail Box" rather than it just being "Open Mailbox") and make those versions available...

Also you could edit and add more options to that dreaded puzzle at the End of Leisure Suit Larry 2 where you have to type in the steps in a specific way in order to make the hair stuff into a Molotov cocktail.

The only games that I played and completed recently would be Ducktales Remastered and Super Mario Brothers Wii-U.

Finished Dungeon Siege 3. I think these days Obsidian, Irrational, Telltale and maybe Valve are the only studios that could get me to try a game that I have little interest in. This is better than the (admittedly lame) original games in pretty much every regard, really enjoyed it.

Interesting. I liked it, but I felt like you could tell it got rushed in the end and didn't get completed.

Oh, absolutely. The problem with Obsidian has always been that they have to feed off other people's crumbs when it comes to their projects. They only got do do Kotor2 because BioWare though Lucasarts' 14 month schedule was insane and I'm assuming the stories behind Neverwinter 2, Fallout New Vegas and Dungeon Siege 3 are similar. I guess it has to be expected that that kind of constant pressure results in a certain lack of polish that has almost become their trademark by now. They've only ever had one original IP, Alpha Protocol, and that didn't work out (still like it though).
Eurogamer ran a nice piece on Kotor 2 a few months back, even recorded a podcast with some of the key people involved. Worth checking out if you like the game and/or have an interest in modding.

Oh, I liked the game - just felt like you could tell certain elements were dropped. I had the good fortune of driving to the Obsidian Office and meeting them there, and then when they got us in at E3 under the Atari badge (where we met with Atari and Obdisian VIP folks) to work on a Neverwinter Nights 2 machinima piece for promotion. (The page talks about all of our history, but near the middle-bottom it gets into us meeting with Obsidian/Atari).

No surprise that I'm still playing Guild Wars 2. I just love exploring that world!

Although DPX and I are still playing some co-op games (GW2 and Sanctum 2), we are also taking more time to enjoy our own individual gaming interests now.

I have been on a Portal nostalgia kick lately and I'm thinking of replaying it. Understand that I rarely replay games, so it's kind of a big deal for me to actually do it.

I was part way into the original Broken Sword, but I just haven't been motivated enough to finish it. It's enjoyable enough, but I think I've become fairly picky with my adventure games. I'm holding out for Mobeius.

Not playing anything, but my father managed to get our old Toshiba 5200 laptop running again, and he's got a (hacked) Goldrush playing now, am listening to that. The smell of the Toshiba at work combined with the orange monochrome screen and the PC speaker sound, the feel of our ragged keyboard keys with mashed Shift keys (due to Pinball Dreams 2), that brings up memories like a madeleine in tea. And hearing my father get frustrated over the typing parser is hilarious.

Stuck between a couple of deadlines and a poor dial-up connection that's just gotten a lot worse...

Sherlock Holmes - The Awakened. At least, I spent half an hour installing it, ten minutes reading the manual, five game minutes of dazing on how to work the interface, ten minutes to fire up the manual and see what I missed, discovered I missed nothing, tried again and discovered all the icons that should show up are incredibly tiny, got the matches and a newspaper, and then quit the game and spent half an hour fanning myself, trying to cure motion sickness. Baaaaaah.

Same story except this time the game is called Jack The Ripper. Dude! Why do you need a full-fledged 3D room if there are only two or three objects in it!

I feel your pain. Some 3-D engines really get to me, while others are not too bad. I think it has something to do with the perceived focal length of the "camera". If that length is shorter, it is more like fish eye lens. It adds a distortion and a spin that can be quite nauseating.
