And those who know it's a harder screenshot, they don't have to require the room if they don't want to. It could all be up to the poster, regardless if they think it's easy or hard.
How do you define an "easy shot" and a "hard shot?" What's easy or hard for me might not be for you and so on.

I'd think identifying Starsiege is easy, but you probably wouldn't since you've never played it. You'd probably think identifying King's Quest 6 is easy, while I wouldn't because I've never played it.

What about those who've only played a game once? I can't imagine everyone here has played each and every Sierra game multiple times and have each room memorized.

I know it's optional and entirely up to the poster; however, using subjective criteria to define the ease in which any game may be recognized (let alone a game's room) will leave some people completely unable to play. That's why I think the current method of identification works just fine as it's as close to balanced as possible.

I would have to agree, with just guessing the screen shot. Do you know how many times I played SQ1VGA - and still did not recognize that current shot? Even when DPX confirmed it was SQ1VGA, I was itching my head to figure out where - and until Musical posted the picture, did I realize where (obviously). But I have played the game an infinite amount of times and didn't recall where it was.

That's why I think specifying the game (and which one, if there's more than one in the series) should be the only criteria of the game. For example if it's from Codename Iceman, that's a fine answer. But if it's from the King's Quest series, you need to specify WHICH King's Quest it's from.

I totally agree with DPX and Tawm. I'm lucky I can get the game right, never mind where in the game it is.

Yeah I can see that, but what Collector said is right on. Sometimes people guess a screenshot just from the art style. Which is kind of unfair.

But I'm ok with any rules. The game is fun period!

Well, sometimes the art style is all you have to go on. If someone posts a screen shot of a computer or a brick wall, what else are you going to go by? Maybe a larger shot might give a better indication of the game.

For me I thought the whole point of the game was to test your memory. "How well do you know your games?" kind of thing. Clearly it's different for others, which I didn't realise. And that's cool.

Well it's more about guessing what it is, based on the screen shot.

Whether your guess is coming from recognizing a piece of the screen shot, or guessing by the graphics from the screen shot (AGI, SCI, EGA, VGA, etc), it's about having fun more than anything.

I mean if it gets guessed quick - so what? We're not here to stump folks and make them look like idiots! We're here to have fun posting silly screen shot portions from games we love!

After all, for me - if it goes outside the generic Sierra games (PQ, KQ, LSL, QFG, GK, and a few others HoC, Torrin's, etc) - I won't know them. Games like Outpost, any of the Dr. Brain, Keeping up with Jones, Oil's Well, any of the Gobliiins, etc - so should I sit out? Or look at the graphics, be somewhat familiar with the game (just from what I had seen in the past, even if I have not played it) and make a guess?

I think as long as people make a guess, and have fun - that's what is important. Narrowing it down to rooms and such, on top of guessing the right game, just gets too complicated.

Someone's free to make another thread for that! :)

It's easy to tell we're all on the same page here. That's what's so fascinating about this forum - everyone has their own view of their favorite games. Whether it's strategy, adventure, 1st person, etc.

I suppose it's easy to say, 'well that one went way too fast'. For example, the bat cave in EcoQuest 2. But then, there was a fair share of those that lingered on and were way too hard until Rudy saved the day, such as the giant foot and the mini truck screenshot that had almost everyone stumped. Neither way is right or wrong, positive or negative. Like I mentioned, that's what makes us all unique. I love seeing screenshots of games I've never played before. Maybe that will nudge me to play those games. Nothing worth getting upset about. :)

It can go both ways. Okay, so what if someone guesses a shot right away. To me, that makes me think that person either knew the game very well or put clues together to find an answer. That doesnt make me think negative in anyway.

I don't mind if you guys want to require the room, that's fine with me. I just prefer not to require it unless maybe it's from a very well known game like KQ6 or something of the sort.

MI, if you think it's getting too easy, then perhaps make the screenshot smaller? Just a suggestion. :)

Okay so I made a cake that says "SHP Kicks Rocks" So dig in.

By the way, MI was correct. It's from Longbow. Talk about going too fast! LOL  I kid, I kid! ;D

I don't mind playing as is by any means. I'm not trying to be contentious about it. I guess I just like things to be a bit more challenging after a while. I seem to enjoy complexity in everything I do lol.

Anywho, I'll get a new screenshot up later on. Game on!
