The World Cup
Re: The World Cup
I fled the heat and went to see a movie during game time. (Don't blame me, I'm no big football fan and I'm a huge fan of airco and having the cinema to myself)
I found out about the very unexpected result walking home through a city filled with drunk people and people freaking the hell out. Rarely have I seen so many people in orange.

Re: The World Cup
I would like to see Uruguay being humiliated in the semis and lose third place in an equally humiliating way. I hate cheaters. The only thing they actually earned today is a bad reputation.

It wasn't very orange over here. I was a bit disappointed, but I wasn't wearing any orange either as I had no faith in winning.therogue wrote:I fled the heat and went to see a movie during game time. Oh.my.God. Argentina is getting served ?! Germany is leading by 3-0 with about 10 minutes to go. Amazing!

HOLY SHIT. Germany is freaking out collectively right now. Over half a million people on the streets in the centre of Berlin alone.
I think we can say that Germany is going to take the title. 4-0 holy moly.

I'm so happy! Not only Germany is a European country, but also... Maradona is OUT! I despise him, utterly, and I'm oh so so happy that he's gone home!
Tonight, Spain!

Re: The World Cup
Most of the country may be in the grip of football fever but one group of Germans are resolutely not supporting the national team. The far-right scene rejects the new multicultural squad as un-German and says it can't identify. For many, it is consistent with their rejection of the entire democratic state.

This makes me want to cheer Die Mannschaft on despite Germany being the traditional great rival of our team.

I live in a fairly rural area and even we can hear vuvuzelas outside and people partying. I went to see a movie and didn't find out the score through tv or telly but by the sounds of people going batshit with joy. I'm not a fan of the sport but I can't be anything but happy with something that makes so many people happy for once.

Re: The World Cup
And I'm happy because, like I've repeated a thousand times already, the Cup will stay in Europe. I'm partial to Spain, but I'd also be happy if the Netherlands will win.

Re: The World Cup
Maybe it's because I live in supposedly sophisticated suburbs, or it's because it's in the outskirts of the most depressing city in The Netherlands, but it's been delightfully quiet out here.
Not sure what I fancy most... a German-NL final so we can revenge the 1974 cup final, or a Spain-NL final so I can sing De Zilvervloot all day. And I'm happy Uruguay is out, it's that rough-house play I really dislike. (although the second Dutch goal reeks of off-side.)

Re: The World Cup
Hmm. I only saw the second Dutch goal for a few seconds on the news - from what I saw, it could have gone either way.
I'm happy that Holland won. They're an exciting team. I still remember the Dutch team of Gullit and van Basten that won Euro 88 - they were a very exciting team to watch.

Re: The World Cup
90 minutes in and 0-0... I predict it'll be penalties, which the Dutch will per tradition lose... It's past my bedtime by an hour and this match is boo-ring.
