GK1 Issues

Post by BBP »

After I couldn't get the speech to run on GK1 on my Vista (it just disappeared when I started it up, have no idea what happened), I installed the game on my Windows 7 laptop using the SHP installer.
It was running incredibly slow, so I put Gabe's walking speed to max and run it on 30000 cycles to get it tolerable. It still makes playing sections with much happening, such as the Voodoo museum and the park, highly slow. The subtitles for the new text appears even before the old text is spoken.

I just had a BSOD, while interrogating Grace about animal masks in Day 7, after talking to Wolfgang. I kept the BSOD data and will put it here for safe-keeping before the laptop crashes, but the PC has been all screwy: Battery Extender had encountered an error and shut itself down, when I looked up the error files the BSOD page mentioned one of them wasn't there and I couldn't access the other, Windows Explorer shut itself down and IE had an error while I was typing this message.

Scary stuff... I wish I had any idea what I'm doing around here...

The game itself cannot cause these kinds of problems. It is all contained within DOSBox. It is not likely that DOSBox directly caused it, either. I would be looking more at something like the driver for your graphics adapter. You could try updating it.

Were you running the game full screen or in a window? Have you had any other BSODS? You can get more information by using a dump file reader.

You might not be able make much sense out of it, but it can give you more information to Google.

The error messages have stopped, but two drivers won't work: ndistapi.sys and ndiswan.sys. They are still in the System32 directory but they won't load. I had quite a few BSODs and at one point the system just wouldn't load at all. I've made a backup of the most important files and am considering taking it to shop. We're at a loss here and my father used to fix crashed PCs for a living. We've been at it for hours.

Biggest problem now is it can't find any network.
