As there is a thread to discuss tv series, I figure it may be fun to have a thread to discuss movies. Have at it, talk about movies, recommend movies, heck go nuts!

I for one am looking forward to seeing Quantum Of Solace tomorrow evening.

I can't start this thread without recommending all David Lynch's movies, particularly Fire walk with me, Mulholland Dr. and INLAND EMPIRE, where our beloved Peter J. Lucas (Baron Von Glower, in case someone didn't remember) plays an important role!

Are you seeing an advanced screening of "Solace?" I keep hearing that it's coming out this Friday but all the movie sites say it's coming out next week.

I want to see this too. Mostly because Jack White (lead singer of The White Stripes and The Raconteurs) co-created the main song for the movie, Another Way To Die.

Nope, it came out in the cinema's today actually. I think with the exception of Spain, in Europe its opening around the 6th. In the UK it naturally opened the earliest, last week.

Also, besides Daniel Craig, hmm. ahem, I am also curious to see how Matthieu Amalric will fare as the villain.

In the EU, Quantum of Solace was released on October 31, whereas in North America, it won't be available until November 14.

I am definitely seeing Quantum of Solace soon - a group of 5 of us will be going on a Monday night which is the only time all of us can possibly unentangle ourself from other things.

I've heard The Duchess is extremely good.

But here's a strange thing. I was talking with a friend of mine about Pan's Labyrinth, dwelling on how utterly beautiful and absorbing and incredibly moving I'd found it. For some reason, that prompted him to send me the DVD of it. I truly thought I'd mentioned I HAD the DVD already... What could I do? I had to think him for his kindness and put it on the shelf next to my existing copy. Now I have two copies. I have decided the second version will be my "lend it to friends who haven't seen it" copy. That way, I'll never NOT have it myself if someone does forget to return it.

I'm quite interested in Passchendaele, which is a war movie covering a very bloody and difficult battle in World War I. The unique thing about this movie is that it shows Canadian troops, as opposed to British (which Canada is usually grouped with), American, German or Japanese.

Visually, one of the most beautiful film seen in a long time. And with a story so touching, so melancholic... Plus, Maribel Verdu is one of the most talented actress I know, her work on Y tu Maman Tambien (another film I greatly recommend) was really top-notch.

I agree. Pan's Labyrinth was amazing. I loved the small, clever inuendos. Little things like the filming angles and use of color.

I agree with everyone, Pan's Labyrinth is amazing. I had to look away at the torture scene and when Mercedes cuts the Captain's face *shudder*

*sigh* I was supposed to see Quantum of Solace tonight, but plans changed.

I thought Pan's Labyrinth was wonderful as well!

I'm also looking forward to seeing the new James Bond movie! Our currently limited transportation may make that a little difficult, though.

The Strangers

The Good -

- Pretty creepy movie.
- Does a good job freaking you out.

The Bad -

- The "scared" couple do typical dumb things
- The ending offers no explination as to "Why" (I will leave it at that)

So if you're wanting to be freaked out and don't care about an actual story - this is a movie for you. If you want to be scared but still want some logical explination as to why things happen as they do - this is NOT the movie for you.

Having finally seen Quantum Of Solace, I recommend it completely. I personally loved it but I must also warn that if you preferred Bond pre restart in Casino Royale, you won't like it as the movie continues in the same vein. Daniel Craig is definately my favourite Bond.
