FMV Rocks!

Post by BBP »

Yesterday I finished up on my first MovieMaker film, glorifying the Live Action Adventure genre! And voilà, here it is!
FMV ROCKS

With 14 games and over 50 actors!

Rambling starts in spoiler section.
Let me know what you think! It was a lot of fun making it, but some things were tough for me:
-I couldn't get my own recordings on, so the music is a wee bit standard.
-I couldn't get recordings of Black Dahlia
-I couldn't include Von Glower
-I only could use part of the Voyeur II suicide, which is one of the most unintentionally hilarious scenes ever.
-Some of the videos cut off earlier in the end result than they did in Windows Movie Maker. EG the "Up yours!" remark from Voyeur II is suddenly cut.
-Cluedo? is so obscure there's no on-line video walkthrough or anything, I had to camera-record my TV since it requires a video card (the player that is hooked up to the PC doesn't have one)
-For 7th Guest and 11th Hour I had to resort to Youtube, and unfortunately everybody else there had the same problems with me when it comes to those games: 7G only runs in DOSBox with a very low volume, and I couldn't record 11H in DOSBox, the videos turned out jerky. So those games gave such a low quality output, I had to limit my using those.
-I still need to play Burn:Cycle.

In a completely random and unrelated note, I discovered Curtis Craig has what looks like Fuselli's Nightmare on his bedroom wall. That painting also graces 7G and 11H.

The odd part for me was Phantasmagoria (the first one) when it first shows it - there is so much red it's hard to even see him.

And 11th Hour - the thing with dropping off the body - why do I not even remember that in the game?

Looks like I had a small hand in this at least as far as Voyeur II is concerned, at least in writing the installer for you. It would be interesting to see a rebirth of FMV at some point, now that the technology is at a point that could do it justice, especially with the storage capacity of Blu-Ray it wouldn't need to be so heavily compressed as to destroy the quality.

What about Shivers 2 or Obsidian?

:D Well, I had to put the limit somewhere, and 14 is a neat score. Looking at the end result I already spend over three minutes introducing the games.
I've only just got Shivers 2, played it for the first time two days ago and got a near heart attack then I found the first baho. Kind of parallels with Shivers.

I guess that I like Shivers II more because I played it first. Did you get the soundtrack CD with your Shivers II?

Beast Within, Return to Zork, and Journeyman Project 2 are probably my favorite FMV games.
