"Curse of Enchantia box art Totally Looks Like KQVII box art"
Actually it should be "KQVII box art Totally Looks Like Curse of Enchantia box art" since Curse of Enchantia was released first (1992). It could be a coincidence though. The box art is pretty "cliche" for lack of a better word: a witch casting a magic spell. I wouldn't make anything of it.

Re: Anyone noticed this?
Yeah - but it's VERY similar.Rudy wrote:"Curse of Enchantia box art Totally Looks Like KQVII box art"

- The faces look a lot a like (for the witches)
- Both witches have like a purple collar thing
- Both are right in the middle of the top cover
- Both feature another figure falling into the "spell"
You can almost take Curse of Enchatia and trace it to make the KQ7 cover.
I think there's WAY too similarities to be just coincidence...

I may be wrong but I think that both stem for a similar picture dating back... perhaps even to Snow White or some other Disney cartoon.

I did find this - but this is new. The witch is at the very top. But nowhere near as similar as the other two covers for the games. Not to mention it's a Blu-Ray cover, which obviously post dates both games.AndreaDraco wrote:I may be wrong but I think that both stem for a similar picture dating back... perhaps even to Snow White or some other Disney cartoon.

According to Wikipedia (actually, a source of Wikipedia), the poster of Enchanted perhaps owes to Enchantia.
Which is quite far-fetched if you ask me; just a woman's head on the upper part doesn't qualify as a similarity

Re: Anyone noticed this?
There is a strong resemblance, but that doesn't mean one took from the other -- at least not on purpose, anyway. It's not unusual for people to see something and then later unintentionally base some sort of work on what they saw before.
All in all, it's a fairly common pose for an "evil witch." She's looking into a crystal ball (or some other magical device) while appearing menacing. It's been done before.
In addition, there aren't a lot of poses that'll work on a PC game box that have the same effect and won't look overly cheesy.
Do I think Sierra copied the image and adapted it for their own use? Possibly. Who knows, right? It could also be coincidental. I've seen lots of movie posters and game boxes with similar imagery and it doesn't mean one necessarily copied the other.

Well, maybe a few times before.

I don't think it's coincidence. It's way too similar. A homage perhaps? I never played Curse of Enchantia and have only heard of it, but never actually seen anything for it. It's funny you consider it one of the most disappointing adventure games ever, because I feel the same about KQ7. Maybe they hired the same artist or were huge fans of the game and wanted to pay homage.
Here's an interesting page about Sierra box art because for some reason the unreleased KQ4 cover popped in my head. Does a high resolution image of it exist?

Most of the images on that page are scans from Sierra game catalogs from the late eighties. I assume detailed drawings were made for each of those pre-release covers, but whether they still exist or can be found is doubtful. Strangely the Genesta/Lolotte KQ4 box art was still used in the Fall 1988 catalogue, a while after the game was already released with the Rosella/Unicorn cover.Maxor127 wrote:Here's an interesting page about Sierra box art because for some reason the unreleased KQ4 cover popped in my head. Hmm...it's strange that those two covers should be so similar, since in some aspects, Enchantia is practically the Bizarro World KQ7. While KQ7 has an incredibly simple interface, Enchantia has what has to be the most awkward, clunky, unfriendly adventure game interface ever devised by Man.
For instance, to get out of the first screen of Enchantia (which is a prison cell where your character is chained up), you have click the right mouse button, which brings up a row of ten icons along the bottom of the screen (and once that row is there, your cursor is stuck down there as well). You have to click on the word button, which brings up a new row of icons, of which only two are active. You have to chose the icon with a word bubble that says "Help!". This makes your character yell for help, which makes a guard walk in the room and yell "Shut up!" at you, then leave, dropping a key at your feet.
How do you pick up the key? Your cursor is a hand, but left-clicking on the key with it doesn't do anything. You have to right-click to bring up the row of icons, choose the hand icon, and you're greeted with yet another row of icons, depicting various actions, but none of them seem to correspond to picking an object up. If you click on the icon that looks like a key being inserted into a lock, you're greeted with yet ANOTHER row of icons, one showing a back representing your inventory, one showing the shackles your character is chained up in, while the last one shows the key. If you click on the key, a black grid that looks like a chain link fence appears over the key and nothing happens. Confused and nearing the end of your rope, you click on the icon showing the shackles. Somehow, this causes your character to unlock them with the key.
How do you get out of the cell? You walk towards the back wall of your cell until you reach a place where right-clicking, clicking on the hand icon, then clicking on the push/pull icon gives you the icon of a wall. If you click on this, part of the wall collapses. If you right-click and click the eye icon, you see an icon of a paper clip. You can pick it up by right-clicking again, clicking the pick-up icon and clicking the paper clip icon.
Now you have to walk back over to the door, right-click, click the hand icon, and click the unlock icon (which shows you an icon of your inventory and an icon of a keyhole). Click on the keyhole (which results in that chain-link grid again), click on your inventory, and click on the paper clip (not the key). This causes the door (which, by the way, doesn't have ANY keyholes, just a large handle on the outside) to open.
You've now gotten past the first room in the game. Good luck!

Re: Anyone noticed this?
I found the guy who did the cover art (and it seems, most of the background art) in Curse of Enchantia. His name is Rolf Mohr.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to find the artist who did KQ7's box art. From all indications, it wasn't Mohr. Even so, I'm interested in knowing who designed it.

It may be part of the reason that the box art was changes for version 2
