Wait for it... Conan the Barbarian - Rebooted!

Post by Tawmis »

http://blog.movies.yahoo.com/blog/885-m ... -new-conan

Before he was the Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger was Conan the Barbarian. The 1982 film wasn't in the same league as some of Ah-nold's bigger hits, but it remains a cult favorite. Today, the first trailer for the remake, starring the formidible Jason Momoa in the title role, hit the Web.

Momoa, who will receive CinemaCon's Rising Star of 2011 Award, may be best known for his work on "Stargate: Atlantis" and "Baywatch." Several years ago, Momoa and Lisa Bonet made news after they named their child Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa. Momoa's mother later explained that Nakoa means "warrior."

Should Momoa's version of "Conan the Barbarian" be a hit, interest in the actor with intimidation to burn is sure to rise. Indeed, he's already surging in the Search box. Over the past seven days, online lookups for "jason momoa" have flexed their muscles, jumping 44%.

You can check out the new trailer for "Conan the Barbarian" below. The film is scheduled to hit theaters this August.

This isn't as bad as the other rebooted movies. It's been a long time since we've seen Conan on film.

And Momoa will be Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones, the HBO fantasy series based on George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire!

I haven't seen the original Conan, but I can only wonder what they'll do to separate this from all the other sword-and-sandal movies and TV shows we've seen in the last 20 years. Or if they'll do anything to separate it in the first place.

Also, why don't they just call this a remake? I thought a reboot only applied when a franchise had been pulverized into the ground.

It's technically a remake.

However, is it a remake when there's a series? There's two Conan movies. Or is it a reboot, since they're redoing the original?

Like I'd see this as a reboot (as I see a potential for them doing more). Where as Clash of the Titans was more of a remake, since it's a single thing.

I've known about this for a while now. I enjoyed Jason's performance in Stargate Atlantis and I'm sure he'll do a great job.

I can't stand him.

Mostly because I am envious of his absolutely gorgeous body.

Yeah. If I had that body, I'd be happy.

Now there was a bad movie. Sam Worthington is probably one of the worst actors I've ever seen.

Was it a good movie? No. Was it entertaining, yes. (For me, that is!)

To me, the original Medusa (which I am very critical of, because as a kid, that rattling sound from her impacted me as one of the most horrifying sounds to hear) is still far scarier than the speedy little (if not prettier) Medusa of the remake.

I believe they have a sequel to "Clash of the Titans" lined up for next year. "Wrath of the Titans," I think it's called.

I love mindless popcorn movies, but I still don't think CotT had enough pop in its corniness. Everything about it was so generic, like it was falling back on a lesser movie's formula. Even Medusa wasn't anything special (I can't even remember her face, and nobody should EVER forget Medusa's face.) Also, maybe I'm spoiled by the "God of War" games, but why can't Hollywood capture the raw epicness of a Greek God? It's very underwhelming to see them just wandering around Mt. Olympus like it's casual Friday.

Ironic, as I can't stand GOD OF WAR, but strangely love VIKING. And it's not because I have anything against the Greek Gods (though, admittedly I do favor Norse mythos over most).

I thought the remake Clash of the Titans (reboot? Whatever?) was actually a good, "Popcorn" movie. The best popcorn movie? No. I believe that goes to one of my all time favorite Popcorn movies - "The Rundown." I could probably watch that like 100 times in a row and not get tired of it. Only reason I'd need a break is to go peepee!

Now "The Rundown" - there's a true classic! The only thing that bugs me about it is it's wasted sequel potential. I mean, how did that not get a sequel when everything else does? You could send The Rock to Australia this time and call it "The Rundown Under." At long as it has him fighting a koala, I could watch that a 100 times!
