How to survive any RPG...

Post by DeadPoolX »

This article has got to be the most hilarious thing over Role Playing Games that I've ever seen.

I thought it was funny how Final Fantasy characters can carry practically a whole house full of stuff with them, like 99 of each type of potion, every old obsolete sword, shield, helmet, and suit of armour in multiple copies, and so on, not to mention hundreds of thousands of gil.

There's also a list of console RPG clichés, which I think I discovered when someone at school was reading it on their laptop, LOL.

(1) 1. Boomkat - Run Boy *10 weeks at #1*
(6) 2. Sugababes - No Can Do
(3) 3. Alex C. - Liebe Zu Dritt
(5) 4. Maksim - Luc^s^aja Hoc^'
(2) 5. Miro - Gubja Kontrol Kogato

Bummer. I will have to check it out from home. Looks like the site is blocked at work.

Holy cow, that took forever to read. All true, though.

I remembered a few that weren't on either list.

-Geographically, a scorching desert and ice palace are often within walking distance of each other.

-The sexiest woman on your team with the skimpiest leather clothes and biggest breasts is never sexually interested in anybody.

-Abstract concepts are the key to everything - love, memory, light, darkness, life, death, etc - and a villain is always motivated to destroy the universe because of these things. It's never about the money or because they're insane.

Somehow this topic reminds me of the Grand List of Overused Science Fiction Cliches, something I found many years ago... ;)

I was thinking the exact same thing! :D

There's never enough humor in games today. Especially RPGs. I think that genre is long overdue.

If I had the programming skills - I'd be doing this. Just reading that list I already came up with a few quest ideas and how it'd work in a game.

Yeah, that list is a veritable treasure trove of ideas. That's a project I wouldn't mind being a part of myself.

I can already picture angry housewives chasing you out of their homes with rolling pins every time you try to take their stuff.

A shame we don't have any AGI/SCI programmers on here. My brain has already cranked out some puzzle ideas based off this silliness. :D

Heh - if he had free time after he was done - I'd harass him about doing this! :D Or maybe converting my text game (Final Soul) to SCI - that would be very cool!

I've wanted to program games for a while, but I'm horrible with graphics and such. I have experience with many programming languages, including C, C++, and Java.
