I bought the game today on the way home from work at Gamestop. I decided to get the playstation version instead of the 360. I'm not sure why, I just did. I really hope that it is as good as what the reviews say they are. I never played the first Portal game either.

The PC and PS3 versions can play co-op together, but the 360 can't. No idea why, but that's apparently how it works.

Uh, google would like to dispute that there's no X360 Co-Op!

Prime example here.

I think you misunderstood me. I meant that players on the PS3 and PC can play together. From what I've read, Xbox 360 players can't play alongside PS3 or PC gamers.

When you log into Steam, there's a button for PS3 gamers. I haven't seen anything for 360 gamers.

OoOoOooOoo. Sweet. So PS3 and PC can play together? That's pretty epic, if that's possible. Weird that PC to X360 doesn't work, since it's a Windows Game and a Windows Company Gaming Console!

Well I went to go play my Portal 2 game last night. I turned on the playstation only to see that the network is down and it is now under maintenance. I thought it was kind of odd for the network to be under maintenance around 8:30 at night, so I did some research.

Turns out something major has happened to the Sony network and their not being very informative about it. Just this morning they said there has been an external intrusion and they have shut down the servers to investigate. Several people believed it to be the work of the hacker group "Anonymous" but they have denied it.

Sony said the network should only be down for a day or two but it has been down since Wednesday night. So it may be a while before I get to play Portal 2 since it is the Easter weekend.

Here is a link about the Sony network being down.

Portal 2 can play PS3/PC cross platform co-op because the PS3 version runs Steamworks while the 360 does not. Valve has been working closely with Sony to make the PS3 version the ultimate console version. So Portal 2 players on PS3 can connect to their Steam accounts on their PC/Mac and even chat with their Steam friends. And you get the PC version for free if you buy the PS3 version and connect to your Steam account and can even share save games between your platforms.

That is pretty epic. Very surprised that Microsoft didn't try to do the same.

Does it work the other way around as well? I mean, can you buy the PC version and then get the PS3 version for free? If not, that's a ripoff. I don't have a PS3, so to me it's not a concern (and even if I did, I'd want Portal 2 on my PC), but it'd be stupid to give PS3 gamers a benefit and not PC gamers, especially considering that Steam's primary gaming audience is on the PC.

Nope, doesn't work the other way around. I forgot about the added benefit and pre-ordered. I do have a PS3 so I wanted to have it on both platforms. My mistake. You could say it's a rip-off, but how else would they do it? They can't send you a free PS3 disc in the mail. Yeah, I guess they have digital downloads, but even so it's not really the same. Perhaps the PS3 Steam client needs the disc to install.

Apparently Gamestop and Kmart will have Portal 2 on sale around 40% this weekend.

I had preordered the PS3 version on Amazon for $55, and it came with the free PC copy (that I immediately activated on Steam) as well as a $20 Amazon credit.

I beat the single player campaign on the PS3, and, holy crap, that was an amazing game. I'd completely be open to saying it's one of, if not the, best games that I've ever played. I played through co-op with one of my friends on the PS3, and it was just as satisfying as the single player campaign. That was definitely worth the money that I spent.

PS3 and PC will not be playing together... at least not for awhile.

I also heard people were getting free games out of this too...I guess that was just rumour. I don't really care about 30 days of free PSN+.
